The police have identified and apprehended 33-year-old Montoya Perry in connection with Figueroa’s death. Figueroa had been making a food delivery for Uber Eats to a doctor at Loretto Hospital in Chicago. Following the delivery, Figueroa was found lifeless on the street outside the hospital at approximately 2 a.m. on Monday.

A doctor at the hospital, upon stepping outside to collect his meal, discovered Figueroa’s body. The injured delivery driver was quickly transported to another hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance footage captured the chilling sequence of events: Figueroa, after completing his delivery, emerged from Loretto Hospital only to witness two men and a woman attempting to steal his van. In a desperate effort to stop the theft, he was dragged by the vehicle for about half a block before it sped off, leaving him behind.

On Tuesday, police confirmed that a suspect was in custody as part of the homicide investigation. Montoya Perry has been formally charged with both murder and vehicular hijacking. She remains in custody without bond, awaiting her next court hearing scheduled for March 18.

Police announced Tuesday that a person of interest was in custody in connection with the homicide investigation. Perry was arrested and charged with murder and vehicular hijacking the same day. She remains in custody without bond until her next court appearance on March 18.

In an interview with local ABC affiliate WLS, Figueroa’s girlfriend Sandra Guerrero said he had just finished working a shift at Amazon on Sunday before beginning a late-night shift at his second job for Uber Eats. Figueroa had been providing for her and her young son, whom she said he treated as his own.

Information about the other two suspects in the alleged carjacking was not made available. No other arrests have been made. While a cause of death was not released for Figueroa, police said he was “fatally struck by [his] vehicle as the offender fled.”
