An Alabama man is scheduled to appear in court this week following the death of a woman he allegedly shot during a weekend gathering. The victim succumbed to her injuries after the incident.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed to WVTM that 18-year-old Kimber Mills has passed away. The suspect, 27-year-old Steven Tyler, is accused of shooting Mills and three other individuals during a bonfire event in Pinson last Sunday.
Following the declaration of brain death, Mills’ organs were donated before she was taken off life support, her family confirmed.
Mills’ sister reported that Tyler unexpectedly showed up at the bonfire, and Mills and her friends were unfamiliar with him. He allegedly attempted to offer a drink and engage in conversation with one of Mills’ friends, prompting her to notify her boyfriend. This reportedly led to a large altercation, which escalated to gunfire.
According to AL.com, another victim of the shooting, an 18-year-old male, remains in the hospital with serious injuries.
Tyler is currently facing charges of murder and attempted murder. He is being held without bond.
