The mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, aged 84, has been declared missing from her residence in Arizona.
Nancy Guthrie was last observed in the Catalina Foothills region near Tucson shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, as reported by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Her family alerted authorities to her disappearance around noon on Sunday, according to Sheriff Chris Nanos.
While Nancy Guthrie has some physical challenges, she does not suffer from any cognitive impairments, the sheriff noted.
In response to the situation, Savannah Guthrie shared a statement through “Today”.
“Our family is deeply grateful for the overwhelming support, prayers, and well-wishes,” she expressed. “Our primary concern is ensuring our beloved mother’s safe return. We are thankful for the diligent efforts of law enforcement and urge anyone with information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”
Nanos said search and rescue teams, including dogs and air assets, are out looking for Guthrie.
“We’ve pretty much thrown everything at this we can,” he said.
Nanos said investigators were concerned because of what they found at the scene.
“This one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we found and located just in looking at the scene,” Nanos said, declining to say if investigators suspected foul play.
“I hope it’s not,” he said. “I hope we find her. I hope we find her safe and sound.”
Nanos also declined to describe what investigators found concerning about the scene.
Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 150 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
