On Thursday, a heated argument over a turkey escalated into a shooting at a grocery store in North Carolina, injuring one man.
High Point police were called to a Food Lion where they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. According to WJBF, the altercation began when a customer got into a dispute with a store employee over the cost of a turkey.
The situation intensified when another shopper tried to intervene, leading to a confrontation between the two customers that quickly turned physical. Authorities reported that one of these individuals then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle.
Footage obtained by WFMY captures the two men engaged in a scuffle outside the Food Lion. In the video, one man is shown pulling out a gun, pointing it directly at the other man’s face while gripping his collar.
Police confirmed that the conflict continued outside the store, resulting in both men exchanging gunfire.
The initial dispute reportedly started when a customer became upset after being informed by an employee that he needed to make a purchase of $35 to qualify for a turkey being sold at the discounted price of $4.44, as reported by WJBF.
The employee claimed another customer intervened when the man got in her face, telling him, “That is a woman, talk to me like that.”
“The man was steady tussling, trying to get his gun out his pouch to shoot the other man. When he did finally get the gun, he pointed it at the man’s face,” the employee recalled. “The [other] man was like, ‘Oh, you wanna pull out a gun?’ He come out this door, the other come out that door…and they started shooting.”
One man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Both men were at the scene when officers arrived and were interviewed by detectives.
It is unclear whether criminal charges have been filed in this case. An investigation is ongoing.
