A Wisconsin woman, previously convicted for the 2022 murder of a man and known for assaulting her initial attorney, lashed out at her current lawyer in court last week.
According to WBAY, Taylor Schabusiness appeared in court on Friday concerning an incident where she attacked a guard at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. She is serving a life sentence for the murder of 24-year-old Shad Thyrion. During the proceedings, Schabusiness aggressively approached her attorney, prompting officers to remove her from the courtroom by carrying her out by her arms and legs.
Following the attack, Schabusiness’ attorney requested to be removed from the case. Although the court denied his request immediately, he has the option to refile for withdrawal after the hearing conducted on Friday.
Though Schabusiness was hauled out of court during her preliminary hearing, she reappeared via videoconference a short time later. She was filmed in restraints for eight minutes before court adjourned for the day.
A month earlier, Schabusiness was found competent to stand trial for attacking a prison guard in July. WBAY reported that a detective testified on Friday that Schabusiness was in the nurse’s office when she lunged at the nurse. A sergeant reportedly pushed the nurse out of the way to deal with Schabusiness — who allegedly swung a small table at the sergeant.
The sergeant reportedly pepper sprayed Schabusiness before other guards intervened and restrained her. Schabusiness has pleaded not guilty to the latest charge.
In 2023, Schabusiness was sentenced to life in prison for murder. Schabusiness claimed she was in a sexual relationship with Thyrion when she strangled and sexually assaulted him. She also dismembered his body and left his severed remains throughout his home and car.
Thyrion’s head was discovered in a bucket in his basement. Thyrion’s mother testified that she initially believed her son’s head was fake.
It was during that murder trial when Schabusiness attacked her lawyer during a competency hearing. That lawyer ultimately withdrew from the case, and Schabusiness was deemed fit to stand trial.
