EVANS COUNTY, Ga. () — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that they are investigating the Evans County Board of Education Thursday.
The investigation commenced after the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts completed an audit of the Board of Education, as stated by a GBI spokesperson.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
In early May, the Evans County Board of Education (BOE) and the superintendent reportedly agreed to split.
Martin G. Waters’ last day with the school system was May 31, 2025, the BOE said in a press release.
Waters served as superintendent since 2016.
Back in February, reports highlighted the BOE’s introduced millage rate, which would mandate an approximately 32% hike in property taxes, sparking worries among numerous residents.
