A Florida police officer who allegedly got into a physical altercation with his pregnant girlfriend tried to get her to take back her story.
According to a booking report obtained by Law&Crime, Fort Lauderdale police officer Timothy Skaggs, 39, was taken into custody by his department on May 17 after his girlfriend accused him of physically assaulting her in the presence of her two children at their home. During the police’s questioning of Skaggs, he allegedly contacted the woman while she was with officers at her apartment, urging her on one call — during which the officers identified his voice — to “retract everything” and claim that she was intoxicated.

Following his arrest, Skaggs was put on a 180-day suspension. It is reported that he revealed to detectives that he had been in a relationship with the woman for over a year, cohabitating as a family with her children. This was confirmed by the woman to the police. At the time, Skaggs was also married, and she informed detectives that on the evening of May 16, she confronted him about maintaining a romantic involvement with his wife and attempted to terminate their relationship.
The incident, as detailed in the booking report, allegedly escalated into a violent encounter where the woman was pushed down, “strangled,” “punched,” and restrained by Skaggs. While the alleged assault took place, the woman’s children were outside the bedroom door, yet she reassured them by stating that she was unhurt.
According to the report, both children tried to call for help, but Skaggs repeatedly tried to prevent the woman and her children from making the call. He eventually left the home in his police cruiser. The woman told police that he was in uniform throughout the alleged incident.
The woman also told police that Skaggs knew she was pregnant while he allegedly committed the assault.
