Matthew Heikkila also kidnapped his girlfriend, Marta Morales handcuffing her and forcing her to spend the night with his deceased parents in his residence.

Marta Morales initially went to his home, where he lived with his parents, Dawn and Richard, after a birthday supper with her lover, Matthew on January 29, 1991.

After the murder, he immediately fled the country, and his father’s checkbook was discovered in his possession when he was caught in Jamaica in February.

He was extradited to New Jersey in 1992 and charged with murder, kidnapping, robbery, making terroristic threats, and possessing weapons.

Matthew’s parent’s Richard and Dawn Heikkila adopted him in the early 1970s.
