Travis Turner, a former high school football coach from Virginia, has reportedly gone missing under suspicious circumstances, leaving behind essential items and his family, just days before facing serious allegations of child sexual abuse. Turner, who was in charge of the football team at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, vanished into the nearby woods around November 20, without any assistance from his family.
Details shared by CrimeOnline reveal Turner’s unexpected disappearance, which has left the community in shock. According to the family’s attorney, Adrian Collins, Turner’s wife, Leslie, remains cooperative with authorities. She has stated through Collins that she did not help him escape and is actively seeking help to locate him.
Interestingly, Turner left without necessities, including his medication, although he did take a firearm with him. This has raised concerns about his well-being and intentions. Collins highlighted that Turner had a history of retreating into the woods over the years, suggesting this might be a habitual behavior rather than a planned escape. However, this time, when he didn’t return, his wife promptly informed law enforcement.
It’s important to note that the criminal charges were filed against him only after his disappearance. The attorney emphasized, “Travis was not a fugitive wanted by law enforcement at the time he went missing,” indicating that his flight was not in direct response to the charges.
As the search for Turner continues, the situation remains tense, with many questions still unanswered about his current whereabouts and future actions. The community, along with authorities, hopes for a resolution that brings clarity to this troubling case.
“Criminal charges were not obtained against Travis until days after he failed to return home,” the lawyer noted. “He was not a fugitive wanted by law enforcement at the time he went missing,” the statement, in part, read.
“Leslie pleads for you to come home and face the allegations by defending yourself in a court of law. Don’t leave your family to fight this battle without you. They love and miss you. They want you to know they are your support.”
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a “reward of up to $5,000 for information” that leads to Turner, who is facing five counts of child pornography possession.
Turner has since been removed from the staff member website at the high school.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Virginia State Police Division 4 at 276-484-9483 or send an email questions@vsp.virginia.gov. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
