A man from Wisconsin is facing charges of attempted murder after an alleged altercation with his ex-wife’s companion at a Green Bay bar on Halloween night.

According to a criminal complaint, the incident unfolded on October 31 at the Hammer Inn Pub & Grill. The victim, who was accompanied by a friend, encountered Robert Goodletson, the friend’s ex-husband, upon their arrival, as reported by the Green Bay Gazette. The victim recounted that Goodletson began shouting at him, prompting him to engage in conversation. During this exchange, Goodletson allegedly grabbed the victim.

The victim managed to escape but was unaware of the extent of his injuries until he stepped outside and realized he was bleeding.

Police were alerted to the situation by a witness who reported the stabbing and indicated that the suspect had pursued the victim outside. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from severe stab wounds to his side and a substantial cut on his head.

Authorities confronted Goodletson, who initially resisted their commands. After his arrest, they observed blood on his hands and discovered a knife in a sheath on his belt.

Goodletson expressed remorse to the officers, claiming he acted in self-defense and alleging that the victim was involved with his wife. He also stated he possessed a concealed weapon permit, remarking that “we were lucky that he didn’t kill the guy.”

The complaint says that surveillance video shows Goodletson watching the victim walk through the bar and yell “No f****** way!” as he gets up from his stool and walks “rapidly” to meet the victim.

Goodletson is seen removing his knife from the sheath in the video then stepping toward the victim and shoving him against a wall. The two men struggle before someone pulls Goodletson off the victim and toward the entrance. As he nears the door, Goodletson is seen swinging the knife while people guiding him toward the door step back and yell, “Put it down!”

Goodletson appeared in court on Tuesday and was ordered held on a $250,000 bail. He returns to court on November 18, WLUK said.
