In Memphis, Tennessee, a woman reportedly offered a ride to a father and his two young children, only to kidnap them and assault the father during their attempt to escape.

Latrica Allen, aged 40, faces charges of kidnapping and misdemeanor assault following the alleged incident on Sunday. The series of events began while a father and his two kids, aged 5 and 2, were walking through a city street.

According to an affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, the family was walking south on Overton Crossing Street near Frayser Boulevard when the suspect approached them and offered a ride. The father offered her $20, and he and his children got into the car.

Although their destination remains unspecified, it is alleged that as Allen drove south in her 2009 Chrysler Sebring, she told the father, “I always wanted kids, and I have a better place to take you.”

The father requested that Allen stop the vehicle, but she “refused to let the victims out,” the affidavit states. Approximately a mile from where they got in, the father “grabbed the steering wheel and pressed on the brakes of the vehicle to make it stop.”

He was reportedly successful, but as the car came to a halt and the father got himself and his two kids outside, “Allen comes toward him,” the Shelby County court document states, adding that she “began scratching and then bit the victim.”

She is said to have then left the scene — but not before dropping her driver’s license on the ground. The father “had scratches on the right side of his neck and a bite mark on his right hand,” according to police.

Allen came back to the scene “where officers were waiting,” according to the affidavit. She was arrested and later booked into the Shelby County Jail.

Court records show she had a video arraignment on Monday and is being held on an $11,000 bond. She is ordered to return to court on Oct. 6 and then again on Oct. 22 for a preliminary hearing.
