A 25-year-old Alabama woman was found dead in her Hoover apartment Saturday morning after a family member checked on her when she failed to show for work on Friday.

Police later arrested a suspect in Fultondale after a brief chase that also included an auto accident involving a police vehicle and an unrelated motorist, AL.com reported.

Investigators have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim.

Hoover police were sent to the victim’s apartment just after 4 a.m. when the family member found the woman unresponsive. Hoover Fire medics arrived on the scene and pronounced her dead.

While authorities didn’t release a cause of death, they said evidence suggested foul play and surmised the killing was a domestic incident.

While officers remained on the scene, focusing on both the apartment and a dumpster, other investigators put out a be-on-the-lookout for the suspect and a white Nissan Altima. Early in the afternoon, the Altima was spotted, and the driver led police through Irondale and Birmingham and onto Interstate 65 northbound.

After a brief chase, the suspect pulled over to the shoulder of the highway, along with officers from Hoover, Irondale, and Fultondale. That’s when a passing motorist struck a Fultondale SUV from behind, sending both the officer and the motorist to UAB hospital. The officer suffered a concussion and was sent home to recover.

The suspect was taken into custody, but it’s not clear what, if any, charges have been filed. Authorities said the investigation was still in its early stages, according to WBMA.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Daniel Lowe at 205-739-6762 or Crime Stoppers 205-254-7777.
