Kim Jong Un’s best pal Dennis Rodman has issued a grave warning for the dictator’s health.
The basketball star – who famously visited the isolated state in 2013, saying he had made a ‘friend for life’ in Kim – was grilled by Piers Morgan following claims the North Korean leader had either died or was in a ‘vegetative state’ following botched heart surgery.
The Good Morning Britain host asked him: ‘Do you know how he is?’
Rodman replied: ‘I do have communications with North Korea, but I can say this though – If you see his sister on TV, running the country, now you know something is wrong, that’s all I’m going give you.’
Analysts predict Kim’s sister Kim Yo Jong, who is often pictured beside her brother at public events, would take over if he is suddenly unable to rule.
It follows weeks of intense speculation about Kim’s health and his whereabouts, after he missed the April 15 birthday celebration for his late grandfather Kim Il Sung, the country’s most important holiday, for the first time since taking power in 2011.
There were claims he was fighting for his life after heart surgery, and there were even rumours that he had died and a reportedly fake image of him in a coffin circulated social media a few weeks ago.
North Korean media released pictures and footage that appeared to show Kim Jong Un making his first public appearance for 20 days following the speculation about his health.
The North Korean leader was seen cutting the ribbon at the opening of a fertiliser factory in Sunchon yesterday, at a ceremony with other senior officials.
Kim was seen touring the plant and smiling and talking to people at the ceremony, but news agency Reuters said the authenticity of the pictures, released by the Korean Central News Agency, could not be verified.
The leader was joined by several other senior officials at the factory, including his sister.
