The deadly incident happened a day after Conner Smith performed at CMA Fest in Nashville.

WASHINGTON — Authorities report that country singer Conner Smith was involved in a deadly accident in Nashville this past weekend, where it’s believed he drove into a 77-year-old woman in a crosswalk.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued a statement saying the 24-year-old musician was behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado pickup on Sunday, June 8, at around 7:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.

“Preliminary investigations suggest she was within a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision,” according to police. The victim, identified as Dorothy Dobbins, 77, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she unfortunately passed away.

The police statement said the crash appeared to have been caused by Smith failing to yield to the woman, who had the right of way and was in a crosswalk.

Police indicated Smith showed no signs of impairment and police said there have been no charges filed while the investigation into the incident continues.

In a statement released to several news outlets, Smith’s attorney confirmed he was involved in the fatal collision.

“His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said. “Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”

Smith, who was born and raised in Nashville, was back in his hometown to perform during CMA Fest, a four-day festival of country music.

The rising country star rose to fame with his viral hit “I Hate Alabama” and released his debut album, “Smoky Mountains,” in 2024, and was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards last year.
