The 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, television’s highest honors, will look a bit different this year.
Gone is the red carpet—a favorite of celebrity and fashion oglers—along with the lavish parties that typically take place leading up to the ceremony. The Microsoft Theater, the award show’s home since 2008, has been traded for the Staples Center, where host Jimmy Kimmel will be based. The audience won’t include the regular mix of stars. Instead the ambitious broadcast has deployed more than 100 cameras around the world to film the nominees in their own homes.
The one constant—despite the pandemic? It will all be live. That means the winners will be just as surprised, delighted and disappointed as the audience.
