Britain’s Got Talent contestant Nabil Abdulrashid has reportedly signed up for the new series of Celebrity Masterchef.

The 35-year-old comedian stirred controversy with his politically charged act during the final of the ITV talent show last year, receiving over 3,000 complaints to Ofcom.

However, Nabil seems to be preparing for a television return, this time in the culinary world, as he aims to showcase his cooking talents and impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

It is said that as well as being a great comedian, Nabil, who was Alesha Dixon’s Golden Buzzer act, is a dab hand in the kitchen too.

A source told The Sun: ‘Nabil is known for his comedy but he’s also a dab hand in the kitchen.

‘He loves cooking up Nigerian dishes and in a nod to his heritage, he will be rustling up dishes that compliment his roots.

‘But Nabil has also proved he’s a pretty good all-rounder. It’s worth keeping an eye on him in the competition.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives of Nabil, Masterchef and Britain’s Got Talent for comment.

The funnyman will reportedly join the likes of Melanie Sykes, Happy Mondays’ Bez and Megan McKenna on the BBC cooking show.

While stars including Katie Price, Love Island’s Kem Cetinay, Joe Swash, former footballer Dion Dublin and Coronation Street actress Melissa Johns are being tipped for the series.

In October last year, Nabil Abdulrashid laughed off the backlash sparked by his political routine as he branded himself a ‘hero’.

The comedian took to Twitter to joke he’s kept ‘Ofcom workers from being made redundant’ after his performance in the final sparked 2,055 complaints, with the number rising to over 3000 shortly after.

Despite the backlash Nabil has brushed off the controversy by insisting he came on the show to ‘make a point,’ and viewers praised his performance for ‘pushing boundaries.’

Laughing off the drama Nabil tweeted: ‘I’m just happy I’ve kept workers at Ofcom from being made redundant. I’m a hero and should be appreciated from my contribution to the economy.’

During his routine, the comedian addressed his previous performance getting 733 Ofcom complaints and Diversity receiving 24,500 for their Black Lives Matter inspired performance as he hit back at critics.

Media watchdog Ofcom later rejected complaints against Nabil and took the freedom of expression into account when making the decision not to launch an investigation.

A spokesperson said at the time: ‘The comedian’s satirical take on his life experiences as a black Muslim was likely to have been within audience expectations.’

Sadly Nabil missed out on being crowned BGT champion, finishing in fourth place, with singer Jon Courtenay winning the series.

Taking to the social media platform following his defeat, Nabil said: ‘Thanks for all the support guys. Didn’t get the ”W” today but don’t worry.. the marathon continues. Love you all #teamnabil #nabilarmy I came to make a point and I think I did.’
