Chelsea are confronted with a challenging decision regarding the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, their historic home ground.

The club’s management, under the new ownership of Todd Boehly, is considering two options, both having their implications.

One option involves spending six years away from Stamford Bridge while it undergoes redevelopment.

The other choice is to purchase land elsewhere and construct a new stadium, which would likely come at a higher cost.

Initially, Chelsea had planned to refurbish Stamford Bridge stand by stand, similar to Liverpool’s approach at Anfield, reports UK Sun Sport.

However, the club’s owners recently agreed to purchase a plot of land close to Stamford Bridge for £80 million, which suggests a possible change in plan.

The new plan would mean demolishing the entire Stamford Bridge complex and rebuilding it from scratch, a project estimated to take six years to complete.

During this period, Chelsea would need to find a temporary home, such as Wembley Stadium, as other clubs like Tottenham did at some point.

Alternatively, Chelsea have been reportedly linked with building a new stadium.

This option, according to reports, comes with its own set of challenges and costs, including a price tag of at least £500 million for the land alone.
