Cody Simpson has finally spoken out about his relationship with Emma McKeon, weeks following their unexpected breakup.

Last month, news surfaced that the 29-year-old singer and the 31-year-old Olympic swimmer had parted ways after being together for four years.

During an appearance on the We Need To Talk with Paul C Brunson podcast, Cody opened up about their relationship, describing their connection as ‘inevitable.’

Cody recounted that he met Emma when he relocated from Los Angeles to Australia in 2021, aiming to dive back into competitive swimming.

‘She was part of the training group I joined upon my return, so we met at the pool while training under the same coach,’ Cody shared.

He noted that they quickly became close, forming a strong friendship through their mutual experiences in the swimming world.

The singer reflected on his romance with the Olympic swimming icon, saying it was ‘inevitable’

However, Cody did admit that he put a lot of thought into taking the relationship to the ‘next level’ before taking the plunge.

‘You have to put a lot of thought into whether that’s a bridge you want to cross with somebody that you know you’re going to be spending the next four years with every day,’ he said.

‘That environment is so intense, adding a romantic layer to it is something that you really have to think about.’

While not offering any explanation as to the reason for the split, Cody said the four years he spent with Emma were ‘beautiful’.  

‘I think after a certain amount of time it [the relationship] was inevitable and something that ended up being a really beautiful thing for us to do together – moving in together and living that lifestyle together,’ he said. 

‘It’s a lifestyle that’s hard to understand. I feel it would be different to be with someone who isn’t doing it while you’re doing it.’

Cody added that despite the relationship being over, he looked back on it fondly.  

It was revealed last month that Cody, 29, had split with Emma, 31, after four years together 

‘Having Emma in my life to support me through my goals and vice versa – we were able to be that for each other and lift each other up. She is a special person.’

Elsewhere in the chat, Cody also reflected on his previous high-profile relationships with Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Miley Cyrus.

He revealed the very sneaky way he managed to strike up a relationship with Gigi, whom he dated for two years.

He admitted that a chance meeting with Gigi at the mall led to him cold-calling the model after his friend gave Cody her number.

‘I would’ve just turned 16. She had just done her first billboard for Guess – she was a couple of years older than I was – I thought she was the hot older girl,’ he explained.

‘I cold called her and said: “Hey, it’s Cody, I’m a musician. I’m doing a music video and was calling to ask if you wanted to be in it.

‘There was no music video.’

He continued: ‘I pitched her this whole concept that didn’t exist. I started texting her: ‘I don’t think the video is happening any more but do you want to go out for food?

‘She was my first love – we were together on and off for about two years.’  

It comes after Cody’s sister Alli confirmed the rumours that the pair had split late last month on The Morning Show, saying her brother and the Olympic athlete had ‘moved on’ from one another.

‘She is like sunshine in human form, so I’m just so happy they can move forward,’ Alli said.

The couple, who began dating in April 2022, sparked breakup speculation after it appeared as if they were living increasingly separate lives. 

Meanwhile, Cody appears to have moved on, after being spotted strolling arm-in-arm with American influencer Adelia Clark, 32, outside a café in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The pair looked very comfortable in each other’s company, with Cody wrapping his arm around the brunette’s shoulders and pulling her towards his chest as they walked side by side.
