A school secretary from Colorado is currently evading authorities after being accused of engaging in sexual relations with an eighth-grade student.
According to Kristen Duus, the Public Information Officer for the Greeley Police Department, Brenda Meza is still at large. This statement comes after law enforcement announced that the 34-year-old is facing multiple felony charges related to sexual assault. As of now, there are no updates on Meza’s location, Duus confirmed to Oxygen.
The incident came to light when officers were dispatched to Franklin Middle School on February 12 following a report of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old student, as per a statement from the police department.
Authorities revealed that their investigation uncovered evidence of Meza’s ongoing sexual misconduct with the minor, which spanned several months. Consequently, Meza is now wanted on numerous felony charges, according to the police.
Beyond her role as a school secretary, Meza also served as a coach for the school’s cross-country team and as a club advisor. Allegedly, the inappropriate relationship began when the student discovered Meza’s Instagram account during the Thanksgiving break. An arrest affidavit, reported by The New York Post, suggests that the pair exchanged text messages and explicit photos before their relationship intensified in January.
Brenda Meza is Accused of Repeatedly Having Sex With Teen, Providing Weed
The school secretary—who also served as a coach on the school’s cross-country team and a club advisor—allegedly began a relationship with the teen after he’d found her Instagram account over Thanksgiving break, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The New York Post. The pair allegedly began sending text messages and sexting photos of themselves before the relationship escalated in January, authorities said.
According to the allegations laid out in the affidavit, Meza and the teen met at a Walmart parking lot, consumed marijuana edibles and BuzzBallz cocktails, and then “started to kiss and touch each other.” They eventually moved into the back of the vehicle and had sex, authorities alleged in the court documents.
Authorities said the pair met up a second time a few weeks later at a local park to share marijuana and have sex again. Investigators allegedly found photos on Meza’s phone that showed the teen drinking alcohol and holding marijuana blunts, along with another image of the two together. The teen told investigators, per the affidavit, that they also had sex a third time at the same park.
Phone data allegedly revealed that Meza and the teen had texted each other “I love you” 81 times between Jan. 29 and Feb. 12.
During an interview with the victim, the teen told investigators that Meza told him she got jealous when she saw him talking with girls his own age, per the affidavit. Police said she also allegedly told the teen that his manhood was bigger than her husband’s.
The teen later told police, per the affidavit, that although he thought the banter—including comments that she believed she’d known him in another life—was “corny” he went along with it.
The illicit relationship was reportedly revealed after the school received an anonymous tip. Meza initially denied the relationship to school officials, according to the court documents obtained by The Post, but later confessed to getting high with the teen to her husband, who called the police.
During an interview with police, authorities said Meza allegedly admitted to having sex with the teen in the back of the car and to deleting nude photos from her phone.
Brenda Meza is Terminated From Franklin Middle School
Meza was placed on administrative leave at Franklin Middle School on Feb. 12 and later terminated on Feb. 25, according to a letter sent to families obtained by KDVR from school principal Dr. Suzette Luster.
Luster told parents in the letter that police believe Meza has fled the state.
“Student safety and security is always our first priority,” Luster wrote. “We are very sorry if these allegations have negatively impacted our school, staff and students. If your student needs extra support during this time, please reach out to our counseling office.”
According to the local outlet, Meza had been employed at the school since 2020.
