Night City is calling once again.
At Anime Expo 2025, Netflix and CD Projekt Red made an exciting announcement about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, the next chapter of the popular anime series based in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. During the “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Behind the Scenes With its Creators” panel, they revealed that the new season will introduce a “completely new narrative, new characters, and a vivid, realistic portrayal of the most perilous city in the dystopian future.”
Bartosz Sztybor, who was a writer and producer for the first series, confirmed the continuation alongside voice actors Emi Lo (playing Lucy Kushinada) and Zach Aguilar (playing David Martinez). Joining them were Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger, who hosted the session, and Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of Edgerunners. According to The Verge, attendees also got an exclusive look at the official Season 2 logo and poster art.
Sztybor expressed, “Although David’s story has come to an end, there’s a lot more to explore in Night City. Having the renowned animation studio TRIGGER join us again fills us with excitement at CD PROJEKT RED, as we unveil a raw, real tale of redemption and vengeance, offering something we’ve never done before.”
Taking the reins this season is Kai Ikarashi, who directed Season 1âs standout episode âGirl on Fire.â Ikarashi was formally introduced as the new director in a video message shown during the panel, where he also debuted a âDirectorâs Voiceâ video, offering a glimpse into his creative vision for the next chapter.
The new 10-episode standalone story is being described as âsadder,â âdarker,â and âmore bloody,â according to Sztybor, who didnât hold back during the Trigger Studio panel: âI just wanted to make the whole world sad⦠when people are sad, Iâm a bit happy.â He added, âIt will be also darker, more bloody, and more raw.â
A synopsis teases whatâs to come:
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077 â a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?
Ikarashi will be joined by returning Edgerunners collaborators Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare), who will handle the screenplay adaptation.
While thereâs no premiere date just yet, fans lucky enough to attend the Peacock Theater panel later that night were treated to a closed-door viewing of new teaser footage, which you can peep here.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is currently in production, with a future release planned for Netflix. More updates will be shared via the official website, newsletter, and CD Projekt Red’s social channels on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
