Davina McCall fought back tears as she admitted her brain surgery led her to question whether her fiancé Michael Douglas wanted to be with her.

The presenter, 57, told fans last November how medics had discovered a ‘very rare’ colloid cyst that affects only three in a million people.

She later underwent surgery as doctors operated to remove the cyst, which they feared could cause serious problems if it grew any further.

Davina has fully recovered, but she recently revealed that after her surgery, she wondered if her fiancé, Michael Douglas, still wanted to be with her.

Speaking to Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast, teary Davina also admitted she can’t speak about her tumour ‘without crying’.

She emotionally shared, “Michael spent most of his time with me, and I’ve never seen him struggle with that, but there were times… he told me that sometimes I’d ask him the same question seven times in just thirty minutes.”

‘And he’d have to leave the room for a bit… But I could. It wasn’t normal. What was happening wasn’t our normal life.

‘I had long-term memory. I could remember… and I thought, “Oh, he doesn’t want to be with me.”

‘But in the end, we had a chat and he said, “What are you talking about? I love you, of course I want to be with you.”

“He said, ‘You’re actually a bit annoying right now.’ I laughed so hard out of relief. It was such a relief to know it was something that would improve,” she said with a sense of comfort.

Davina continued, “I knew I was still there inside. Sometimes I wanted to shout, ‘Please remember me. I’m still here. I’m trying to come back to you, but I just don’t know how. Wait for me. I promise I won’t be this annoying forever.'”

Speaking more about her memory loss following her surgery, Davina said: ‘What I didn’t anticipate was how difficult the six months after would be.

“I managed well with preparing for the surgery and the lead-up to it, including going to sleep, but I thought life would return to normal quickly, and it didn’t,” she confessed.

She added: ‘I didn’t understand, and people had said your short-term memory might be affected, but I just didn’t really get what that meant.
