Is this possibly the start of the decline for #MomTok? According to Demi Engemann and Whitney Leavitt, stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, perhaps Seasons 2 and 3 mark that turning point.
In a conversation with DECIDER during Hulu’s recent “Get Real” event, the popular Utah duo shared insights into the escalating drama that fans can anticipate in the upcoming episodes, set to premiere on Hulu on May 15 — just a week away! — along with details about Season 3.
After launching its first season last September, the show quickly gained a dedicated following on Hulu. This overwhelming reception led the streaming service to commission 20 more episodes. Although it wasn’t initially specified, it has now been disclosed that Season 2 will feature 10 episodes, with the other 10 rolling out as part of Season 3 at a later date.
As for what fans can expect in the season soon to release on Hulu, Engemann and Leavitt — a “Sinner” and a “Saint,” respectively, as the show has labeled them — said that viewers should buckle up for a wild ride that includes the return of one of the Mormons wives in Taylor Frankie Paul‘s swinging scandal.
“Miranda [McWhorter] is coming back into MomTok,” Engemann shared with DECIDER of what fans can expect in terms of drama in Season 2. “So whatever comes with that.”
And when it comes to Season 3 — which may come sooner than fans expect — Engemann said things do not get any easier or smoother for everyone’s favorite Mormons. In fact, there are “so many lies” in the group that it might end MomTok altogether.
“Yeah, we’re beyond that point,” the reality star said. “We got to come up with a new slogan.”
Read on for DECIDER’s full interview with the pair ahead of Season 2.
DECIDER: I’m so excited we’re back. How are we feeling going into Season 2?
WHITNEY LEAVITT: Oh my god, we’re stoked.
DEMI ENGEMANN: Stoked, nervous, feeling all the things.
Whitney, I have to ask, how’s baby Billy?
LEAVITT: Oh my gosh, he’s the best. He turns six months next week.
ENGEMANN: He is actually the cutest baby in the whole entire world. Yeah, I’m obsessed with him.
LEAVITT: He needs to model for a diaper, like Huggies or something.
ENGEMANN: His head is perfect.
LEAVITT: Yeah, i’m pitching him right now for it.
There are going to be some new babies coming around soon too. How is the show going to deal with that?
LEAVITT: There’s a lot of estrogen going on right now, that’s all I gotta say about that.
ENGEMANN: There’s a lot going on. We’re excited. I think it’s exciting. MomTok is growing and it’ll be fun to see some new cute little babies in the mix.
Well, with the theme of MomTok growing, there’s also more drama this season. What can you tease on the drama side of things for Season 2?
LEAVITT: I need to start thinking of this question because I want to have a good answer for it.
ENGEMANN: Miranda [McWhorter] is coming back into MomTok, so whatever comes with that. Spoiler alert, Miranda comes back to MomTok.
Is it Miranda’s turn to be the villain this season? Whitney, do you get a reprieve?
*McWhorter enters the interview*
MIRANDA MCWHORTER: Oh, I guess we’ll have to see and find out.
Miranda, really though, how are you feeling about joining the cast?
MCWHORTER: I mean, it definitely wasn’t without its reservations, but I’m happy to be here.
ENGEMANN: Diplomatic, beautiful job.
**McWhorter exits the interview**
Well, I also have to ask, have you guys seen the drama with the Vanderpump Villa stuff? What’s going on there? What’s the real story?
LEAVITT: I think some people just want some clout right now, I think that’s what’s going on.
ENGEMANN: That’s the real tea. Thank you. You took the words right out of my mouth. We’ve got a series of clout chasing happening. Yeah, don’t believe everything you see and also tune in because there were first some fun moments in Italy was amazing.
Obviously, we’re talking about Season 2, but you’re literally filming Season 3 right now. If you could share one thing about Season 3, what would you want people to know?
ENGEMANN: So many lies. So many lies.
LEAVITT: We’ll see if they come out.
ENGEMANN: Yeah, and not for me and not from her.
Will MomTok survive it?
LEAVITT: I don’t know about that anymore. We need a new hashtag.
ENGEMANN: Yeah, we’re beyond that point. We got to come up with a new slogan.
