It’s been almost a full month since we last embarked on adventures with Dr. Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), Captain Robert (Don Johnson), and Tristan (Sean Teale) in the Season 1 finale of Doctor Odyssey. Now, we’re left to ponder: Will we ever set sail with the top cruise ship team in the industry once more?
While almost every other ABC show that launched in the fall has either been renewed or canceled, Doctor Odyssey’s fate remains undecided, with current developments suggesting it could go in either direction. Why must they leave us in suspense like this?
What may have initially seemed like a lighthearted medical procedural from Ryan Murphy quickly transformed into one of the year’s standout new TV series, garnering fans including Last Week Tonight host John Oliver, all eager for a second season. So, what’s causing the delay?
Well, in case you’ve been under a rock, here’s what we know about Doctor Odyssey Season 2, including if it’s happening and what the latest updates are.
Has Doctor Odyssey Been Renewed For A Second Season?
Sadly, Doctor Odyssey has not been renewed for a second season. At this time, the show’s fate remains up in the air and it’s unclear when we will know if the show will be returning.
What Is The Latest Update On The Show Coming Back For Season 2?
The latest update on the show does not bode well for fans of the series, unfortunately. Just a few weeks back, news broke that several “blacklisted” crewmembers are suing 20th Century for an “unchecked campaign of sexual harassment for months,” according to Variety.
Three plaintiffs allege in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County that Tyler Patton, the assistant prop master on the series, would make inappropriate jokes and and comments, subject the female employees to “unwanted touching,” including the grabbing of one woman’s buttocks.
It’s unclear if and how this will impact the show returning for a second season.
Could Doctor Odyssey Return In the Fall?
Given that ABC has already announced the fall slate and the medical drama did not make it onto the list, we do not see a world in which the show will return in fall 2025.
Who Is Making The Decision On The Show’s Second Season?
According to Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, it sounds like Doctor Odyssey will live or die by the hands of co-creator and EP Ryan Murphy. “Doctor Odyssey isn’t currently on our schedule,” Erwich told Deadline in May. “Ryan’s really busy. He’s doing a lot with us. 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Nashville, All’s Fair [for Hulu]. So we’re just continuing that creative conversations with him.” Ryan, make the right choice!
What Is Doctor Odyssey About?
“Max is the new on-board doctor for a luxury cruise ship where the small but mighty medical team navigate unique medical crises and each other, miles from shore,” a description reads.
