A Nigerian political activist, Chude Nnamdi laments the economic hardship in Nigeria while insisting that earning a N200K salary is as good as being unemployed.

This came following the statement by the Air Peace airline boss, Allen Onyema on how Nigerians earning N200K have a better life than those earning £2000 in the UK.

According to Chude in a series of posts via X, the poverty level in Nigeria worsened in 2024 as inflation climbed higher than it was in the last quarter of 2023.

Ridiculing the statement made by Allen, Chude insisted that N200K salary is barely sufficient to survive, let alone provide enough comfort as suggested by the Air Peace boss.

In his words;

“Anybody earning 200k in the present Nigeria is as good as unemployed. This is to put things into perspective, why do you think they say 70% of people in Nigeria are living in poverty?

“People are already depressed and you have someone saying a 200k salary in Nigeria is equavalent to $2000 salary in U.S.”

He added, “For a man with a sizeable family, 50k can hardly buy you foodstuff that can carry the family for 2 weeks in the present Nigeria.

To fill 12Kg coking Gas is nothing less than 18k. What about light bill & co?”
