General Hospital star Tristan Rogers revealed he has been diagnosed with cancer.
According to Deadline, Rogers, renowned for his role as Robert Scorpio on the ABC soap opera, shared the news through a press release issued by his representative.
“Although he remains optimistic and is collaborating closely with his healthcare team to develop a treatment plan, this is a difficult period for Tristan and his family,” the statement mentions. “As they navigate the emotional and physical challenges associated with this diagnosis, the family respectfully requests privacy and understanding. They are profoundly thankful for the overwhelming support and affection from their friends and family.”
The statement concluded with a message form the 79-year-old actor.
“Tristan wishes to express his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he values their loyalty and encouragement throughout the years. This support holds more meaning for him now than ever. Any future updates will be shared if Tristan and his family find it suitable,” the statement continued.
Rogers originated the role of Robert Scorpio when he first appeared on the long-running soap opera in 1980. He has starred in over 1,000 episodes of General Hospital since, while also making appearances in the spinoff series General Hospital: Night Shift.
His last appearance on General Hospital was on Nov. 12, 2024, when his character left Port Charles with his ex-wife.
Rogers’ decades-long career also included roles in The Young and the Restless, The Bay, and The Bold and the Beautiful, as well as several voice acting credits throughout the years.
The actor earned a Daytime Emmy Award for his performance in Studio City.
General Hospital is currently on hiatus.
