In Ohio, a suspect on the run, humorously nicknamed “Oscar the Grouch,” was apprehended after a garbage collector discovered him concealed inside a trash can.
The incident took place on February 23 when an unidentified man bolted on foot during a traffic stop, as detailed in a dash camera video shared by the Huber Heights Police Department on Facebook.
The Facebook post narrated, “Earlier today, Officer Tyree conducted a traffic stop. As the vehicle came to a halt, the driver took off on foot. The officer momentarily lost sight of the individual but promptly secured a perimeter in the vicinity.”
In the dash cam footage, a sanitation worker is seen maneuvering a trash bin to his truck, preparing to empty it. He recoiled in surprise when he lifted the lid, as the suspect unexpectedly emerged, glanced around, and then dashed off.
Police humorously commented on Facebook, “By sheer coincidence, ‘Oscar the Grouch’—our pet name for the suspect—made his appearance in the perfect place at the perfect moment,” a nod to the grumpy green character from Sesame Street who resides in a trash can.
The officer, whose dash cam captured the unfolding events, swiftly exited his vehicle to pursue the suspect, who then fled out of view.
“Thanks to the impressive athletic ability and swift response of our very own Officer Perez,” read the Facebook post, “the suspect was safely apprehended.”
The suspect’s name is Jonathon McMillan, a spokesperson from the Huber Heights Police Department confirmed to Oxygen.
McMillan is being held at Montgomery County Jail, according to court records viewed by Oxygen.
He is charged with resisting arrest and obstructing official business, per the court records, and his next court date is March 5. An attorney for McMillan did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen.
