After a hiatus since 2019, Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball is set to make its return, now being revived on Hulu with fresh episodes. These new episodes will pick up precisely where the show left off, and according to the series creator Ben Bocquelet, they should be viewed as the seventh season. The newly released teaser from Hulu suggests that the show’s trademark absurdity will remain intact, just as fans fondly remember.

In the teaser, which is available for fans to view above, we return to Elmore where Gumball literally brushes off cobwebs as he realizes he’s running late for school. “Oh, dude, we’re late for school!” Darwin exclaims to Gumball.

But just how late are they? “About seven years,” Darwin responds, nodding to the series’ lengthy break. However, there’s still time to relax. “Five more minutes then,” Gumball decides, heading back to sleep.

Considering it’s actually been six years since the show left the air, it sounds like the revival series won’t be airing until late 2025 or 2026. But Hulu has not announced a premiere date.

The show will be taking big swings as it promises “wilder stories, bigger twists, and surreal humor,” warranting a whole new title for the revival: The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball.

“Welcome back to Elmore, where the laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary,” reads Hulu’s summary of the series. “Whether he’s battling an evil fast food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom, or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants— Gumball drags Darwin, Anais, and the rest of Elmore along for the ride.”

Bocquelet shared a statement about the new show with executive producers and directors Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain.

“What an amazing opportunity to play with these characters again!” they said. “Fans can look forward to plenty more antics and misadventures in Elmore because Gumball and Darwin haven’t grown up much since we last saw them…we haven’t either.”

The series will stream exclusively on Hulu and Disney+ and Hulu bundle.
