Mauricio Pochettino has warned his Chelsea flops that he is no actor and when he is angry with them he will show it.

The Blues boss tore strips off his players in the dressing room after their defeat to Newcastle because he was furious at their performance.

And ahead of Sunday’s clash with Brighton he admitted there will be more of the same this season if his struggling side’s poor form continues.

‘You ask if I felt let down by them? But it was our responsibility as well as the team. Everyone together. We need to think in this way. We need to put the context on the situation.

‘It’s important that the players feel the coaches in a natural way. When you are angry you are angry and when happy, happy.

‘I am not an actor. I cannot act. I cannot come here prepared and tell myself to smile if I don’t feel happy. No, I smile because I think the week was good.

‘But of course I am not happy after the last game and we know we need to perform this weekend to recover the points we lose against Newcastle.’

Pochettino took his players through what he felt they did wrong in a game in which Reece James got sent off and Chelsea ended up losing 4-1.

But he claims he was not pointing fingers at any individuals – and that his players should be able to learn from the experience.

Pochettino said: ‘Of course, we were tough in our analysis but we told the truth. It’s to show the things we didn’t do.

‘But it’s not to blame them, it’s to blame everyone, ourselves first. Maybe our approach wasn’t right. So maybe we have to pay attention, to have a different approach in the future.

‘And of course it is a young team and sometimes we need to be tougher with, to learn. And sometimes we need to be nice. And we need to choose the way how to express our ideas.

‘It’s about whether they get what we want. If we are helping in the way we explain things. That is the most important thing.’
