Ian Ziering, known for his role in “90210,” faces serious accusations in a fresh lawsuit stemming from his involvement in a roadside altercation with a group of bikers in 2023.

The incident, captured on video, unfolded on December 31, 2023, along Hollywood Boulevard, where the 60-year-old actor was seen engaging in a confrontation with mini-bike riders.

Following the clash, two bikers were detained, while Ziering claimed that he was threatened by one of the riders, prompting a tense exchange. However, video evidence also appears to depict Ziering as the instigator of the conflict.

One of the detained bikers has now initiated legal proceedings against Ziering.

Jacob Hernandez filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles County, as reported by The Daily Mail, accusing the actor of battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution, negligence, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Hernandez alleges that Ziering instigated the altercation and leveraged his fame to manipulate the narrative by speaking to the press and providing authorities with ‘misleading information,’ which subsequently led to Hernandez’s arrest.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Ziering for comment.

Hernandez alleges he was riding his bike through Hollywood Boulevard with a female friend when they hit traffic.

The plaintiff then navigated his bike in front of Ziering’s Mercedes-Benz and behind another vehicle.

‘Plaintiff was not, nor did he, touch the Mercedes he was in fiont of, nor the car he was behind. Plaintiff was simply between both these vehicles waiting for safe passage into the left lane,’ the suit states.

The suit adds that Hernandez was ‘not impeding the flow of traffic in any way, specifically not the Mercedes’, as no traffic was moving.’

‘Defendant [Ziering] suddenly exited the car, yelled at Plaintiff [Hernandez], and aggressively approached Plaintiff who remained on his motorbike. To the right of Plaintiff, parallel to Plaintiff, the female friend of Plaintiff was also waiting for traffic to let up and was stopped on her motorbike. Plaintiff did not say anything to Defendant. Defendant walked directly to Plaintiff and yelled at Plaintiff in a threatening manner. Without pause or hesitation, Defendant with full force shoved defendant with both hands into the upper body of Plaintiff twice. This was completely unprompted, and Plaintiff had not said a word nor put a hand on Defendant.’

The move allegedly caused Hernandez to topple into his friend and their bikes to fall onto the floor. The plaintiff alleges he and suffered injuries in the fight, and that his bike was also damaged.

The lawsuit then claims that a ‘melee occurred between Defendant [Ziering] and multiple individuals who came to the aid of Plaintiff [Hernandez] and his female friend’, an incident which the suit notes was caught on camera.

‘Defendant’s [Ziering’s] actions were intentional, unnecessary, and posed a foreseeable risk of physical and emotional harm, which Plaintiff [Hernandez] in fact suffered,’ the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit accuses Ziering of using his high profile to shift the narrative about what had transpired by doing interviews with the media and leaving out facts when retelling the story on social media.

‘Defendant is a celebrity and means. Defendant used that societal position to gain access to the media, and omitted the truth of the events, instead, lying and stating repeatedly that he was the one that was attacked,’ the suit says.

‘He further repeated this false statement on his Instagram account… claiming he was attacked by the Plaintiff and his friends. He stated on his Instagram account that he was simply protecting himself but never stated he started the altercation,’ it continues.

Hernandez also claims that he was arrested due to ‘misleading information provided by Defendant [Ziering] to law enforcement.’ He was held on $50,000 bail, and was released after his family submitted bail.

He later learned that the District’s Attorney had no criminal case moving forward against him at his arraignment the following month.

However, Hernandez says the fallout weighed heavily on him.

He claims he suffered ‘significant mental health issues’ such as extreme anxiety, consistent panic attacks, and paranoia as a result of his arrest and the negative public depiction allegedly sparked by Ziering’s framing of the story.

‘Plaintiff [Hernandez] had his name negatively plastered in the media as a result of the public megaphone which the Defendant [Ziering] held, lying by omission in multiple interviews, making Plaintiff out to be the aggressor,’ the lawsuit continues.

The lawsuit also stated: ‘In each and every interview, Defendant played the “victim” and did not ever provide the honest description of events, namely that Defendant was the person that became violent. The subsequent lie campaign only caused further injury to Plaintiff.’

It also says: ‘Defendant was actively involved in causing Plaintiff to be arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department. Defendant deceived, mislead, and was untruthful when he provided a statement to the police. These lies caused the police to determine legal justification existed to subsequently get a warrant and arrest Plaintiff.’

‘Plaintiff [Hernandez] does not want to leave his home for fear of public humiliation nor open his social media applications, as Defendant’s [Ziering’s] story was publicized vilifying Plaintiff.’

The suit states that Hernandez ‘has suffered both physical and mental injuries from the incident’ that he has not yet recovered from.

The plaintiff has requested a jury trial in addition to compensatory damages and punitive damages.

He was one of two people arrested last year in connection with the incident. TMZ reported at the time that he was booked for felony vandalism.

Authorities reportedly cited videos of the incident, which took place at the end of 2023, as key pieces of evidence in the investigation – but none of the footage directly led them to identify the suspects.

An incident statement from LAPD investigators said that the altercation took place at around 3 pm on New Year’s Eve while Ziering and his daughter Penna were sitting in traffic in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard.

‘The confrontation began between the victim and one of the minibike riders over possible damage to his vehicle,’ the statement said. ‘Three to four additional minibike riders jumped in and assaulted the motorist.’

Ziering shared a update with his fans on Instagram the day following the jarring attack.

‘Yesterday, I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes,’ Ziering wrote on Instagram on January 1, 2024.

‘While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation.’

‘In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.’

Ziering confirmed that he and his daughter were left ‘unscathed’ – but said that he was concerned about the ‘growing boldness’ of such groups.

He went on to say the brawl highlighted a larger issue of ‘hooliganism’ on the streets and the ‘need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior.’

‘I have always been an advocate for standing up against intimidation and misconduct, and this incident reinforces my belief in the importance of personal and community safety,’ Ziering continued in the Instagram caption.
