Transitioning from reality TV to the stage is what Jay & Pamela stars Jay Manuel and Pamela Chavez aspire to achieve. The duo discussed their future ambitions, expressing a desire to venture into the entertainment industry.

“I would love to get into acting, particularly in a comedy show. Doing something in Spanish within entertainment also excites me,” shared Pamela, 30, during an interview with TODAY.com published on Thursday, April 3. “Singing is another passion of mine. I’m working on overcoming stage fright, which is my main obstacle, along with modeling. So we’ll see where it goes.”

Jay, 28, expressed an interest in music production behind the scenes, but he hasn’t completely dismissed the idea of modeling and acting. The TLC star participated in a runway show for New York Fashion Week 2023, showcasing models with disabilities, and he is eager to explore more opportunities like it. He even mentioned that gracing the cover of GQ is one of his dreams.

“I’ve been talking about this for years, so I’d love to be on magazine covers getting into high fashion,” Jay told the outlet.

The couple first met online in 2019, and after seven months of exchanging text messages and phone calls, they were finally able to meet in person when Jay headed to Pamela’s for the holidays. Eventually, Pamela packed her things and moved to Georgia to be with Jay.

Pamela and Jay have plenty of help since they live in the same home as Jay’s parents, which she called a “blessing.” Plus, even though moving to an entirely new state was a bit nerve wracking for Pamela, she said that Jay had been a huge help.

“He brings me a lot of joy, and he has helped with my mental health. I used to be afraid of going to therapy and he was going to therapy already when I met him,” she gushed. “Seeing how it was going so well for him, it got me curious. I’m like, ‘Let me give that a try.’ So thanks to him, my mental health has gotten better.”

Pamela and Jay were both diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta Type 3, also known as brittle bone disease. The condition is rare and causes a person’s bones to break more easily. Throughout their lifetime, Jay and Pamela have had over 400 broken bones combined. The disease also leads to chronic pain, which the couple has managed with various types of medication. However, with the help of aids like wheelchairs and elevator seats, they both have been able to do things that most people didn’t believe were possible.

“A lot of those physical challenges are just something that we kind of learned to deal with and live with even when it is hard because it’s all that we’ve known and this is the way that we were born,” Jay explained. “So we just have learned to adapt and navigate those obstacles as they come.”
