However, the 35-year-old star might have finally discovered her fashion niche. On Tuesday, she attended a Tiffany’s event exuding an elegance reminiscent of Mad Men’s golden era.

And it worked wonderfully for her as the Dawson’s Creek star looked fresher, prettier and dare we say it, hipper, than she has done in years.

Katie slipped into a gorgeous fluid navy shift dress with cream underlay that showed off her classic figure nicely.

Her slim legs looked great in the versatile pointed pumps that became popular in the decade that swung, and remain so today.

Katie kept her retro theme strong with a chignon swept forward into a half fringe.

Makeup and jewellery was kept to a minimum, in the former’s case the emphasis was on pretty pink and kohled eyes.

The independent young woman -who has denied she is dating comedian Jason Segal –  attended the event solo.

Over the last 21 months since her separation from Tom Cruise, Katie has successfully rebranded herself as a diligent actress while maintaining a relatively discreet lifestyle.

Key to achieving this was her move to New York, ostensibly to be nearer Broadway but also, it seems, so she can lose herself in the masses of Manhattan.

She certainly seems to enjoy the bustle, which is the antithesis of the deserted yet lushly manicured sidewalks of Beverly Hills where she lived with the 51-year-old megastar.

In Holmes’ Hollywood, getting around would involve nothing more liberating than a blacked out Escalade or pedalling on the spot at Soul Cycle.
