Nicole Kidman is reportedly forging a close bond with her “Scarpetta” co-star, Simon Baker, a development that has allegedly left her former husband, Keith Urban, in a state of emotional turmoil.

The duo, who portray a married couple in the new Amazon Prime series “Scarpetta,” were recently spotted hand in hand, exuding happiness during the show’s premiere in New York. Their public display of camaraderie has sparked intrigue and speculation.

During the event, 58-year-old Nicole openly acknowledged their on-screen chemistry, describing it as something that “just vibrates.” Simon, 56, playfully quipped in response, “I don’t kiss and tell,” further fueling curiosity about their relationship.

Keith Urban, who also shares the age of 58, reportedly finds himself distressed over the whispers of a budding romance between Nicole and Simon, particularly given the short time since their separation last year. The speed with which Nicole appears to be moving on has been unsettling for him.

An insider revealed to Woman’s Day magazine that witnessing Nicole and Simon together was akin to seeing a close friend with one’s partner, delivering a significant emotional impact on Keith. The source added that it was understandable for Nicole to lean on Simon during this period, noting his previous support for Naomi Watts following her split from Liev Schreiber.

‘He knew it was natural for her to lean on Simon – he was also there for Naomi Watts after her split from Liev [Schreiber].’

The source added that Keith was seriously hoping that Nicole and Simon were just having fun for the cameras, as a genuine romance between them would devastate him.

‘Keith is hoping they’re just hamming it up for headlines. But even then it feels to him like it’s a betrayal because both Nicole and Simon know how much even the hint of a romance between them will hurt him,’ they said.

‘He already suspected they were getting close while filming. This has become his worst nightmare.’

Nicole and Simon beamed as they attended the star-studded New York premiere of Scarpetta on March 3, staying by each other’s side across the night.

The Babygirl actress has been close to Simon for decades, and is also good friends with Simon’s ex-wife Rebecca Rigg, from whom he separated in 2020.

‘He hates that they’re giving interviews about how close they are. He’s in total shock that she would flaunt a new relationship so soon after their divorce. It’s not what they agreed on for the sake of the girls,’ the insider added. 

‘Don’t discount how much seeing her hold another guy’s hand on the red carpet will affect him. He knows better than anyone how much Nicole used to lean on him in those moments – now she’s relying on Simon and it’s hard for him to see.’ 

In January, it was reported that Nicole’s A-List friends were encouraging her to move on from her divorce by getting back into the dating pool.

According to Woman’s Day, Nicole’s close buddy Naomi Watts suggested the Oscar winner date fellow Aussie star Simon.

‘Simon’s always been a good friend of Nicole’s – she and Naomi are both godmothers to his kids – but it’s always been a strictly platonic friendship,’ a source told the magazine.

However, the insider claims that Nicole is ‘too scared’ to do anything that might ruin her friendship with the Mentalist actor, whom she has known for decades.

The magazine also claims Nicole wants to protect her friendship with Simon’s ex-wife, Rebecca.

According to the report, it was Naomi who suggested to Nicole that Simon play her lover in the crime show, which is based on the book series by Patricia Cornwell.

Simon, who has been known to be flirty with Nicole in public, has often teased fans with cheeky comments about his friendship with the superstar. 

Nicole and Keith’s separation was confirmed by Daily Mail on September 29, and Nicole filed for divorce on September 30, citing irreconcilable differences.

Their marriage began to fall apart at the beginning of the summer of 2025. 

The split was reportedly a long-term development, stemming from months of quiet separation and diverging paths due to work commitments, according to Daily Mail sources.
