She's not even trying anymore! Kelly Clarkson trades in dresses for denim... after 'unexplained' absence

Kelly Clarkson seems to have thrown in her sartorial towel a bit.

The 43-year-old talk show host has not been slipping into her pretty party dresses and high heels when hosting her eponymous show in recent days.

Instead of the frills, the American Idol veteran has gone with wardrobe staples like blue denim jeans and casual shirts.

On Monday the mother-of-two was seen in a pea green long-sleeved shirt tucked into fitted blue jeans.

Last week the Stronger hitmaker modeled a sheer paisley peasant blouse with yet another pair of denim jeans sans a belt.

This comes after she took several days off from her hit daytime TV show without any solid explanation.

Kelly, however, looks just as great in the less dressy items as her winning good looks and personality shine through.

Her Monday guests were lifestyle expert Martha Stewart and Chef Jose Andres as well as Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles.

She has yet to really explain why she was absent from her talk show for so long.

But now, fans have something to look forward to – new music – and possibly a thorough answer for her absence.

Kelly announced new music on April 18 by sharing an album cover on Instagram indicating the new song is called Where Have You Been?

However she has not yet revealed the release date for her new single. ‘Soon…’ Kelly captioned her Instagram post.

In January, Kelly announced that she’d formed her own record label and she will be releasing her new music independently for the first time in her career.

Clarkson hasn’t publicly addressed her absence from her show.

Kelly sparked concern with a cryptic comment she made as she reappeared on the show in mid March, which happened to be the 1,000th episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The singer got candid after she made her return, and in celebration her milestone episode, she admitted she’s ‘lost and alone a lot.’

During the taping, the Grammy-winning singer reflected on her journey since she debuted her show in September 2019 on NBC.

She did not address her recent absence but vaguely spoke about having gone through ‘a lot of ups and downs’ in the past during a heartfelt speech.

‘Welcome to the Kelly Clarkson Show and our 1,000th episode,’ she said. ‘I can’t believe today marks the 1,000th. It’s crazy.’

She continued: ‘We have met some hugely talented people, tons of big stars and inspiring everyday heroes.’

She gushed about how she, her team and her fans have ‘created a community and supported each other through a lot of ups and downs.’

Kelly is gearing up for her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Her 18-show run kicks off on July 4 and is scheduled through November 15, 2025.

Kelly will next perform a two-night stand at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ happening May 9-10.

Earlier this month Kelly got high praise from Sheryl Crow after she covered her 1993 hit All I Wanna Do as part of her Kellyoke segment.

She was surprisingly faithful to the original track and did not use the full force of her powerful three-octave soprano pipes.

‘I’m such a fan,’ Kelly gushed to her studio audience afterwards. ‘She’s been such a cool artist to me from the beginning. Such a fan of hers!’

The 63-year-old singer was tagged in The Kelly Clarkson Show’s Instagram video and she commented: ‘Good grief @kellyclarkson could sing the damn phone book! I love this version better than mine!’

Kelly shares two children with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, whom she shares an icy relationship with.

Kelly and Brandon are parents to son Remington Alexander, eight, and daughter River Rose, 10.

The former couple’s divorce was finalized in 2022, however they dealt with a contentious legal battle stemming from their prior business relationship.

She and her ex-husband were married for nearly seven years before calling it quits in June 2020.

She sued Blackstock last year after accusing him of making unauthorized business deals on her behalf.

They settled their lawsuits over commissions in May 2024, ending a contentious legal battle that began after their divorce was finalized two years earlier.
