Daredevil: Born Again? How about Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones, born again!

After her roles as Jessica Jones in both the Marvel miniseries The Defenders and in Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix, Ritter will once again take on the character in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. As reported by Variety, this casting update was revealed at the Disney Upfront on Tuesday (May 13), where Ritter expressed she is “so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones.”

According to Deadline, Ritter shared this update alongside series star Charlie Cox, who commented, “Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again was an incredible experience, and the response from fans and audiences has been overwhelming.”

Cox further added, “The good news is we’re just getting started. We’re currently shooting Season 2, and it is heading in a bold new direction. I’m excited to finally suit up in the iconic black Daredevil suit – complete with the interlocking Ds on the chest. It’s something fans have been asking me about for over a decade, and that’s just the beginning of what we’ve got in store this season.”

Marvel’s Jessica Jones was cancelled after three seasons on Netflix in 2019 as Disney was gearing up to launch Disney+, per The Hollywood Reporter. While speaking with TVLine in 2019, Ritter had said she didn’t think she would ever revive the role.

“I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door,” she said at the time.

Jessica Jones and other Marvel series such as Daredevil and The Punisher officially made the move to Disney+ in March 2022 after the rights reverted to Disney. Per The Verge, Netflix’s licensing deal with Disney had ended on Feb. 28, 2022.

Nonetheless, Ritter will be joining existing cast members like Cox, as well as cast newcomer Matthew Lillard, whose Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 casting was revealed by Deadline in February. As for the role Lillard is taking on, he told ComicBook, “It’s kind of a small role right now, but hopefully people like it, and they bring him back in some capacity.”
