**Spoilers for The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 4 “Ice Cream,” now streaming on Apple TV+**
Theo (Guy Remmers) and Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag) share a kiss midway through this week’s episode, which culminates with the pair caught up in a passionate encounter. It’s perhaps unsurprising that the spurned Duke of Tintagel would pursue the captivating Lizzy Elmsworth, regardless of her engagement. However, it could astonish Buccaneers enthusiasts that Lizzy would so readily betray her closest friend.
“Now I feel guilty for Lizzy!” Buccaneers star Aubri Ibrag exclaimed when DECIDER described the affair that way.
How did this happen? What is going on? Well, let’s track what’s happened so far this season on The Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers Season 2 begins with Nan resolute in her decision to marry Theo, a choice that ensures her sister Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) is spared from her harmful husband, Lord Seadown (Barney Fishwick). Lizzy, Nan’s best friend, is fully supportive of this plan. So much so, that when Lizzy finds a letter from Guy asking her to reunite him with Nan, she initially conceals it. Nan is determined to fulfill her role as Duchess of Tintagel. Who is Lizzy to interfere with her resolve?
Meanwhile, Lizzy finds herself noticed by not one, but two men. Handsome liberal politician Hector Robinson (Jacob Ifan) pulls out all the stops wooing the American heiress. However, even as this courtship is happening, there are all these quiet moments where Theo and Lizzy find themselves connecting. After Lizzy accepts Hector’s proposal, Theo makes a point to say that he kind of, sort of, doesn’t think the politician has the juice to marry her. He tells Lizzy she is “sensational.”
Around this time, Lizzy also learns that Nan is absolutely unhappy with her situation. Seeing how heartbroken Nan is, Lizzy encourages her to go to Guy, thus blowing up her marriage to Theo. Then, in The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 4, Lizzy starts to feel disconnected from Hector, just as Theo is free to declare himself. By the end of the episode, Lizzy and Theo are in bed together. Aubri Ibrag explained to DECIDER just how this happened so quickly.
“I think with Hector, there was obviously a connection there,” Ibrag said. “She thought he was a very good guy. Like the way he played with the kids and the fundraising, and I think she really appreciated his kindness as a person.”
“But I think with Theo, she felt a little butterfly in her stomach, if that makes sense?” she said. “That’s not something she’s experienced before. Obviously, she’s new to love and that stuff, so I almost think that it overpowered — it was unexpected and it was overpowering.”
The sensation is so overpowering that Lizzy goes to Tintagel to initiate a night of passion with Guy. Never mind the fact that Theo is still technically her best friend’s husband!
“Obviously, we’ve got Nan, but Nan is in love with Guy,” Ibrag said. “So in her mind, for the first time in her life, she’s kind of a little bit selfish and did what she actually wanted to do.”
“I think it’s a new side of Lizzy that we didn’t get to see before because she was kind of quiet and shy and a people pleaser, and be scared to step a foot wrong. I think it’s nice to see her come into her [own], actually be a little bit selfish.”
“Not even selfish,” Ibrag said, correcting herself. “Just following her heart.”
Will following her heart lead Lizzy down the right path? Is she blowing up a chance at happiness with Hector? Will Nan find out? The answers to these questions, and more, will be answered by the rest of The Buccaneers Season 2 on Apple TV+.
