The adventures of Tommy Shelby are finally over as the hit BBC series focusing on the life and times of a group of enigmatic Brummie gangsters drew to a close in explosive style tonight (Sunday).
Peaky Blinders has grown a huge audience both in the UK and the US since it began six series ago and fans were all eagerly chomping at the bit to find out what happened in the final ever episode on BBC1 tonight.
There had been strong hints that Tommy Shelby, the gang’s dynamic leader, would be killed off after Tommy received a devastating tuberculosis diagnosis earlier in series 6.

And there had also been concerns about how Michael was scheming to get revenge on Tommy for being put in prison, while the head of the Shelby family, having sworn off drinking, had also been buddying up a group of fascists behind closed doors.
And fans couldn’t wait to find out just how it would all end. SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read any further yet if you’re still avoiding the ending!
But it turns out that the doctor had been lying to Tommy and in fact, his diagnosis had all been a ruse. And in the end, Tommy Shelby, despite his flaws, got his hero’s ending as he rode off into the sunset after killing Michael, shooting him straight in the eye.
There is still a cinema feature film to come for The Peaky Blinders of course. And in fact there were still some unanswered questions as the storyline of the American and Mosley was never fully resolved.
The quote of the final episode – and perhaps of the series – which summed it up: “The only man that can kill Thomas Shelby is Thomas Shelby.”
Viewers mostly seemed to love the series finale. But the one common thread of fan reaction was that the final episode highlighted how weak series 6 has been as a whole.
