Penelope Milford, an esteemed actress who earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, has passed away at the age of 77.
Milford, recognized for her role in the 1978 film “Coming Home,” died on Tuesday in Saugerties, New York. Her brother, Doug Milford, confirmed her passing, though the cause of death has not been disclosed.
In “Coming Home,” directed by Hal Ashby, Milford portrayed the character Vi Munson. The film also featured notable performances by Jane Fonda, Jon Voight, and Bruce Dern.
The movie is set against the backdrop of California and tells the poignant story of a woman whose husband is a Marine officer fighting in Vietnam. During his absence, she develops a romantic relationship with a former high school classmate who has been paralyzed by a combat injury.
She starred as Vi Munson in the Hal Ashby directed flick which also starred Jane Fonda, Jon Voight, and Bruce Dern.
