A man has been sentenced for violently throwing a teenager to the ground after the young boy accidentally splashed water on a woman at an In-N-Out restaurant.
Lucas Kalisher admitted to second-degree attempted assault on February 23, according to People. The incident occurred nearly two years prior at a burger joint in Loveland, Colorado.
Police responded to a call from the restaurant on August 4, 2024, as noted in a police press release. A 15-year-old boy reported that he and his friends had been playfully splashing water, which inadvertently landed on a woman seated nearby.
As the teenager approached the woman to apologize for the mishap, her male companion reportedly “grabbed him, placed both hands around the front and back of his neck, pulled him down to the table, and then hurled him backward onto the floor,” as outlined in the press release.
The teenager recounted that the man and woman left the restaurant before law enforcement arrived.
A video capturing the incident, which gained widespread attention and was shared by the Daily Mail, allegedly shows the man demanding the boy “say sorry” before forcefully throwing him to the ground. The man is heard saying, “Apologize! You don’t treat a lady that way.”
Police interviewed witnesses and reviewed video footage of the incident, per the release, which helped to identify Lucas N. Kalisher as the suspect.
On Aug. 13, 2024, Kalisher turned himself in, stated the press release, and was booked into the Larimer County Jail.
Kalisher was initially charged with assault in the second degree-strangulation, a class 5 Felony, according to the release, and child abuse, a class 1 misdemeanor. As part of a deal, reported People, Kalisher pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree attempted assault.
According to KDVR, Kalisher was ordered to enroll in anger management, write an apology letter to the teen—and pay him restitution—and complete 120 hours of community service.
A spokesperson for the Eighth Judicial District of Colorado did not immediately return a request for comment from Oxygen. A spokesperson for In-N-Out could not be reached.
Kalisher is reportedly the CEO of a private equity firm, although Oxygen could not independently confirm his occupation or place of work and Kalisher did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
