Spencer Matthews has candidly shared that competing with his wife, Vogue Williams, for professional opportunities has been somewhat challenging.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, had previously quashed rumors of marital discord last November.
In a recent interview, Spencer, 37, opened up about how teaming up with Vogue often felt like a contest, prompting him to step away from their joint podcast.
During an appearance on Matt Willis’ “On the Mend” podcast, Spencer remarked, “She’s an amazing woman, you know? Anyone who meets my wife instantly adores her. She’s definitely the more popular one between us.”
He explained, “In those early days, we worked together on a TV show called ‘The Spencer and Vogue Show’ and had a podcast named ‘Spencer & Vogue.'”
“That naturally created a competitive vibe, like who could be funnier? We were always trying to outdo each other, exchanging playful barbs while on camera,” he added.
Spencer Matthews has revealed he found competing with his wife Vogue Williams for jobs ‘grating’ on their marriage
‘But of course, it’s a natural thing. Ultimately you’re entertaining. So, who’s more entertaining? When we stopped all that and I went to pursue this in a bit of a different direction, performance and sport and she wants to be a TV presenter.
‘I’ve never wanted to be a TV presenter. So having those differences in what we do has been really helpful.
‘When she lands something, I’m really proud of her. Whereas when we were together and doing similar stuff and she would get something that I was potentially interested in, it was a bit like, you’re happy for your partner obviously, but it’s also a bit of a kick in the teeth. It’s like well, why didn’t I get it?
‘That creates, not issues, but there is a slight competition is probably a good word for it.
‘If you’re in a competitive scenario with your partner it can be a bit grating.’
Vogue, 40, played down claims of difficulties within their relationship in November, after the couple failed to publicly mark their seventh wedding anniversary.
It came months after Spencer stepped down from their joint podcast, Spencer & Vogue, to focus on his own project, Untapped.
Speaking to The Sun, the presenter said she has reached a point in her life where only ‘their truth’ matters.
She said: ‘When he left our podcast, everyone was like, “What’s going on?”‘

Vogue also admitted to worrying about their children hearing the ‘baseless and cruel’ gossip at school.
The couple are proud parents to son Theodore, seven, daughter Gigi, five, and son Otto, three.
Vogue had previously addressed the claims in an Instagram post as she told followers: ‘It’s with great sadness that I have to let you know that Spen and I are NOT breaking up!
‘I usually avoid addressing baseless and cruel rumours, but this just keeps coming up.
‘It’s disappointing to see this narrative being pushed almost daily when it’s absolutely not true, and much more importantly, I don’t want my children hearing these lies in the playground.
‘We’re not sure what the angle is or where it’s coming from, but the whole thing feels very strange and mean. We’re very happily married and in love and I hope posting the truth on my own platform might make it stop.’
