After a fresh batch of episodes filled with murder trials, custody battles, reconciliations, breakups, pregnancy drama, and plenty of wine, things are far from smooth in the universe of Ginny & Georgia.

The third season of the popular Netflix dramedy created by Sarah Lampert sees Georgia Miller (played by Brianne Howey) separated from her children, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Austin (Diesel La Torraca). Her exes, Gil (Aaron Ashmore) and Zion (Nathan Mitchell), turn against her, challenging her marriage to Paul (Scott Porter) while revealing a new side of Joe (Raymond Ablack). Although the final episode of the season, titled “Monsters,” concluded Georgia’s trial and wrapped up several major plot threads, it also left viewers with burning questions and a shocking cliffhanger.

Wondering how Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia concluded? Decider’s Ginny & Georgia Season 3 ending explained provides a thorough recap of the finale. Read on to find out how Georgia’s trial concluded, the state of Ginny and her friends, whether Georgia and Joe end up together, and more. However, be cautioned that significant Ginny & Georgia spoilers are ahead.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Ending Explained: Is Georgia Found Guilty For Murder?

Season 3’s penultimate episode ended with Austin taking the stand and testifying that he saw his dad, Gil, kill Tom Fuller. *GASP!* The accusation shocks everyone, mostly Georgia, who — like viewers and her kids — knows she did, in fact, smother Tom Fuller to death with a pillow. As Austin explains he was playing hide-and-seek when he saw his dad kill Tom, a baffled, heartbroken, angry Gil flees the courtroom. But one person doesn’t look rattled by the news. A calm, cool, collected Ginny nods encouragingly when Cynthia Fuller takes the stand and is asked if Gil could have slipped into the house that night unnoticed and killed her husband.

Before Cynthia answers, flashbacks show what prompted this new narrative. After realizing Georgia’s fate was in her hands, Ginny met Austin at school and told him Simone didn’t think their mom would win. She also revealed Gil’s plans to move Austin to Michigan and showed him the bruise on her arm from where Gil grabbed her. Since Georgia was on trial for murder, Ginny knew the jury would need a killer, and with a criminal record and a history of violence, Gil was the perfect fall guy. Since Georgia and Cynthia blocked his apartment application, he even had motive. With Austin on her side, Ginny headed to Cynthia’s house, took a page from Georgia Miller’s survival guide, and went full-on blackmail, threatening to expose Cynthia’s affair with Joe and release security footage of them from Blue Farm. (Spoiler alert: There were never any cameras!)

Looking at Ginny from the stand and knowing her and Joe’s reputations are at stake, Cynthia confirms Gil could have killed her husband. And just like that, the jury finds Georgia NOT GUILTY. (Despite the fact that she absolutely killed three people!) The Miller family rejoices, the media and Wellsbury’s community profusely apologize to Georgia, and Ginny revels in her “intoxicating power to control the game.” She finally understands how her mom feels after successfully manipulating a situation to her benefit, but as we learned from Georgia, a win comes with a price…

Do Austin And Ginny Go Back Home To Live With Georgia?

Despite thinking that Austin’s confession was a little too convenient, Zion brings him and Ginny back home, but tells Georgia he’s petitioning for joint custody — something Ginny wants, too. Surprisingly, Georgia doesn’t fight back. Instead, her and Ginny have a cathartic heart-to-heart and recap the ridiculously chaotic series of events — from her wedding arrest to Cynthia recurring her release, which she still doesn’t understand. After the show’s delightfully self-aware moment, Georgia says she and Austin will start therapy and promises Ginny she’ll never murder again.

Do Ginny And Marcus End Up Together?

Shortly after returning home, Ginny bumps into her Marcus and within minutes of their reunion, she gets right down to business: “I’m still in love with you. I know you love me as a friend, but I think I will always be in love with you. I don’t know how to just turn it off.” When she turns to leave, Marcus grabs her arm, pulls a Nick Miller (IYKYK), and assures her he never stopped loving her. *SWOON*

While all seems right again on the block, Marcus also tells Ginny he and Max aren’t speaking, because she told their parents he has a drinking problem. He promises he doesn’t and calls Max dramatic, but when Marcus returns to school, he’s called to the principal’s office with his parents and they’re told he failed sophomore year. If he wants to start junior year with the rest of his class, he’ll have to take summer school. It’s another major blow to his self-esteem that sends him to the bottle, and though Max begs her mom to send Marcus to rehab, Ellen fears missing summer school and getting left back will only make things worse.

After an unbelievably challenging year, Ginny wows her friends, family, classmates, educators, and Wolfe by reading the poem that won her the Boston Youth Poet Laureate Contest at the end of year assembly. The piece, called “Beginnings,” is a raw, emotional exploration of her journey, her fear that another shoe will always drop, and her desire to stop “burning through life.” Her words move everyone, except Max, who leaves the assembly in tears after yet another failed attempt at reconciling her friendship with Abby and Norah. And though Marcus shows up for Ginny, he sneaks alcohol in with him.

What Happens To Paul Randolph?

With the Mayoress Murderess off the hook, what happens to the mayor? After realizing Georgia was faking her pregnancy to trick him into supporting her, Paul distances himself from her permanently and nearly tanks his career. Following the trial, Wellsbury votes that he should be recalled, so he has to run again in the next election.

In a long-overdue move, Paul finally fires Nick. And as he’s drinking his sorrows away at Blue Farm, he apologizes to Joe for backing big business with Prop 38. Paul also lets it slip that he and Georgia slept together when he thought she was pregnant with his baby. Joe, also having slept with Georgia mid-trial, is taken aback by the news. But more on that later…

Before the finale ends, Georgia visits Paul in his office, apologizes for lying, and gives him back her wedding ring. Paul accuses her of using his status as mayor, never loving him, and turning him into the worst version of himself. Before Georgia leaves, she says, “I didn’t make you anything that wasn’t in there already.” BURN!

Do Georgia And Joe End Up Together?

OKAY! It’s later. Georgia and Joe stans, Season 3 was very good to us. The finale might not offer the ending we want for the two, but trust it’s the one that’s best — for now! Following Georgia’s trial, Joe is incredibly suspicious of Austin’s story. He’s all ready to distance himself from Georgia, but when he goes to vote against Prop 38 and learns that Georgia hired construction workers to drill outside the polling place to dissuade people from voting against him, he goes to her house and straight-up asks if Gil killed Tom.

“I did it. I killed Tom Fuller,” Georgia tells him. “I feel safe with you I feel…more me. Like, real me… I killed my last husband, too. And all those things in the media they said about me, they’re mostly true. They dug up every secret and you’re the only one who stood by me, and you’ll never know what that meant to me. So I get it if you don’t want anything to do with me, but I’m not gonna lie to you. I’m so tired of lying and running I just want to stand still.” Rather than run from the real Georgia, Joe says, “Screw it!” and the two passionately kiss. Joe does come up for air to clarify that Georgia shouldn’t kill people, but he understands why she did. Rather than embrace her fairytale ending, however, Georgia pumps the breaks and says she promised Ginny she’d be different. Her kids need her to settle down without a man, which Joe understands. So fingers crossed for Season 4!

Does Marcus Have A Drinking Problem?

Despite being grounded, Marcus sneaks out to go to Brodie’s end of year bash and Max follows to ensure he’s OK. As Marcus gets drunk, Max tries to make amends with Ginny only to hear her say they’ve grown apart the past year. That’s Max’s final straw. She drags Marcus home, where their worried parents are waiting. He breaks down sobbing, tells his family he hates himself, and makes it clear that he needs professional help ASAP. Unaware how bad his drinking has gotten, Ginny climbs through Marcus’ window only to find that he drunkenly wet the bed. He tells her he failed the school year and she heads home heartbroken. The next time we see him, his mom is driving him to rehab as he tearfully reads Ginny’s poem about him, “Sunshine.”

Who Is Shane Reilly? The Terrifying Return Of Georgia’s Father (And Mother And Stepfather)

Earlier in Season 3, Georgia got a call from Shane Reilly, an inmate serving time in the New Mexico State Penitentiary. Turns out, that’s her father, who went away for the attempted murder of Georgia and her mother. In the finale, he calls again, and this time Georgia reluctantly answers. He calls her Mary and issues a serious warning: “If I can find you, anyone can. Your mom, your stepdad. Mary, you have to be careful.” Before the episode ends, an old red pickup truck with a man and blonde woman inside drives past the house, suggesting that Georgia’s past is coming back to haunt her again. (Per IDMb, the driver was Georgia’s stepfather Ed Atkins, played by John Tench, and the passenger was her mother Daisy, played by Jayne Heitmeyer.)

Just as Georgia’s parents and their actions impacted her, her actions impacted her children. Since Austin lied on the stand, he’s been visibly stressed and haunted by his actions. After chatting with Cynthia, Georgia learns that Ginny concocted the grand plan to free her and worries that she’s following in her footsteps, changing for the worse. “I know I’m a monster. I don’t want you to turn into monsters, too,” Georgia tells Ginny. “I make tough choices so you don’t have to.”

As Ginny says, “Change is inevitable.” And in Season 3’s final scene, we’re reminded we haven’t seen the last of Ginny & Georgia’s changes, conflicts, or chaos. As Ginny sits in the kitchen reading a book on South Korea to prep for a trip with her dad, Georgia grabs a gallon of milk from the fridge and chugs. On another show, with another character, viewers wouldn’t think twice. But when Ginny says, “Mom? Didn’t you say you drink milk when you’re pregnant?” Season 3 ends on the perfect cliffhanger.

Is Georgia Pregnant On Ginny & Georgia? And If So, Who’s The Father?

The final scene certainly implies that Georgia is pregnant, but we’ll have to wait until Season 4 for confirmation. If she is pregnant after *checks notes* everything, it would be another deliciously dramatic twist — especially considering she slept with Paul and Joe in Season 3. As much as I’d love a Georgia and Joe baby to bring them closer together on an accelerated timeline, that sounds a little too convenient. The most outrageous twist would be to make Paul the father, which would stand in the way of Georgia and Joe and put Paul and Georgia in the awkward position of deciding whether they want to co-parent after their fallout and Georgia lying about a pregnancy already! We’ll have to wait and see what Ginny & Georgia has in store. So here’s hoping Season 4 arrives ASAP.

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
