The main suspect in the murders of four family members found dead in Tiptonville, Tennessee, has been arrested.

The Jackson Police Department announced on August 5 that Austin Robert Drummond was apprehended by U.S. Marshals after an extensive search lasting several days. He is facing charges for four counts of first-degree murder, as well as counts of aggravated kidnapping, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony. These charges are linked to the deaths of James M. Wilson, 21, Adrianna Williams, 20, Cortney Rose, 38, and Braydon Williams, 15.

Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box praised the relentless efforts and collaboration of various local, state, and federal teams in a statement. He noted their continuous focus on justice and community safety throughout the investigation.

Box also extended gratitude to the local community for their cooperation with deputies and investigators, highlighting the crucial role citizens played in the process.

Before Drummond’s capture, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that Dearrah Sanders, 23, Tanaka Brown, 29, and Giovonte Thomas, 29, were arrested as accessories after the fact to the murder charges. Specifically, Brown is also facing evidence tampering charges.

The TBI has not revealed how these individuals assisted Drummond, but it has been suggested that Sanders provided help post-murders.

Quadruple homicide was a “targeted incident”

David B. Rausch, Director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, confirmed the murders were not random, but rather a “targeted incident,” according to reports by NBC News.

Rausch also said that Drummond had a “familial relationship” to the victims, all of whom were found dead in a wooded area of Tiptonville, Tenn., on July 29. The remains were determined to belong to Wilson and Adrianna Williams — whose infant child was found abandoned in a yard in the neighboring community of Tigrett that afternoon — as well as Williams’ mother, Cortney Rose, and brother, Braydon Williams.

It’s believed that Drummond previously dated one of Rose’s sisters, according to NBC News, which cited a Facebook post from a relative of the victims. “He has literally been nothing short of amazing to us and our kids every time he has been around us up until this point,” the post read.

Infant in family’s custody

Wilson and Adrianna Williams’ infant child is now safe in the custody of family members after being found abandoned on a “random individual’s” yard on July 29.

TBI Director Rausch said that Drummond left the child behind and waved down people to help, an act Rausch described as a “sign of compassion,” according to NBC News

Drummond’s vehicle, in which he appeared to be living in, was later found abandoned in Jackson, Tenn., authorities said in an August 1 statement. He was spotted dressed in camouflage and carrying a rifle on video footage taken in the surrounding area the following day, prompting a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.

The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the killings remains ongoing.
