Receiving news that a role you have passionately embodied for years will be taken over by someone else is never easy. However, Andrew Terraciano, who originally brought the character of Sean Reagan to life in “Blue Bloods,” approached the announcement with a thoughtful and philosophical perspective. The character will be reimagined by Mika Amonsen for the spin-off series “Boston Blue.”
Reflecting on this transition, Terraciano shared with Us Weekly that, “It’s wonderful to know that each line and moment as Sean is cherished forever.” He added, “That doesn’t mean someone else can’t create something equally beautiful with it. I had the honor of portraying Sean and sending him into the world, and now someone else will experience that joy.” Terraciano also mentioned that Donnie Wahlberg personally reached out to discuss the change. “It was a heartwarming moment to hear from an old friend and someone I deeply respect and have learned a lot from,” he expressed.
Terraciano’s graciousness is notable, considering he not only originated the role but has been portraying Sean since the tender age of six. He navigated the character through childhood, adolescence, and into young adulthood. Despite this deep connection, Terraciano harbors no resentment about the recasting.
Interestingly, Terraciano learned about the recasting on the day he graduated, from a source close to him. He recounted to Us Weekly that his mother informed him of CBS’s plans, saying, “I received a call — coincidentally on my graduation day — after someone spoke to my mom, who then called me in tears.”
Regarding Mika Amonsen’s portrayal of Sean Reagan, Terraciano has yet to watch it due to his current commitments. “I’ll get around to it. I’ve been incredibly busy,” he admitted. “I’m pursuing my Master’s degree, which means most of my TV viewing is limited to course-related content.” While focused on his education, Terraciano hasn’t set aside his acting passion, revealing to the magazine that he is delving into theater.

Regardless, Terraciano assured Donnie Wahlberg that his support remains unwavering, should Wahlberg need him for “Boston Blue.” He shared, “I told Donnie over the phone, if he calls, I’ll be there—not just for ‘Blue Bloods’ or ‘Boston Blue,’ but for anything in life.” Just like the Reagans on screen, the support within this fictional family extends beyond the show.
As for whether or not he’s sampled Mika Amonsen’s version of Sean Reagan, Terraciano is currently busy with other affairs. “I’m getting around to it. I’ve been very, very busy,” he said. “I’m getting my Masters right now. That means that I have put off almost all TV watching — unless it’s specifically related to a course.” Terraciano’s dedication to getting his degree is admirable, but he definitely hasn’t left behind his love of acting, explaining to the magazine that he’s begun to explore the theatrical world.
In any event, Terraciano has told Donnie Wahlberg that he’s always available if Wahlberg wants him for “Boston Blue”: “I said it to Donnie on the phone. If he says the word, I’ll be there. Not just with ‘Blue Bloods’ or ‘Boston Blue,’ but with anything in life.” In reality as in fiction, it looks like every branch of the Reagan family tree will be there to support each other.
