In 2015, DC and IDW Publishing crafted an exceptional sci-fi crossover, bringing together DC’s premier cosmic hero and the USS Enterprise crew in “Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War.”
While not the inaugural “Star Trek” comic crossover, what sets “Star Trek/Green Lantern” apart is its inclusion of characters from J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” films. The comic features the likenesses of actors such as Chris Pine—who was once considered for the role of Hal Jordan—alongside Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldaña, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho. In the narrative, an alternate DC universe faces devastation at the hands of Nekron. Before perishing, the last Guardian of the Universe sends the power rings—crucial in battling Nekron—into a parallel realm, eventually landing in the Enterprise crew’s possession.
Although it may not be widely discussed today, “Star Trek/Green Lantern” remains an underrated gem in the world of comic crossovers. The storyline seamlessly blends both universes, presenting them in their prime. It’s a grand cosmic saga that holds its own against DC’s iconic event series.
Even if the brilliance of “Star Trek/Green Lantern: Spectrum Wars” wasn’t fully recognized upon release, its success and fanbase were evident, leading to a 2017 sequel. “Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds” sees Hal Jordan and Star Sapphire joining the USS Enterprise in the “Star Trek” Kelvin timeline, an intriguing scenario few anticipated.
As this new chapter unfolds, the absence of a power battery from Oa causes the Green Lantern rings to deplete. Fortunately, the “Star Trek” universe may house an Oa equivalent. Meanwhile, Sinestro embarks on a perilous quest, and the notorious Khan acquires a red power ring.

Mirroring “The Spectrum War,” “Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds” is a collaboration between DC Comics and IDW, featuring the talents of writer Mike Johnson and artist Angel Hernandez. This sequel heightens the tension and delivers a fresh adventure where Green Lanterns and Starfleet officers unite in a shared battle.
As the story kicks off, we learn that without access to a power battery on the planet of Oa, all the Green Lantern rings are slowly running out of power. Luckily, there may be a counterpart to Oa in the “Star Trek” universe. At the same time, however, Sinestro is on a deadly mission of his own, while the villainous Khan steals a red power ring for himself.
Like “The Spectrum War,” “Star Trek/Green Lantern: Stranger Worlds” is a joint production between DC Comics and IDW. The same creative team of writer Mike Johnson and Angel Hernandez returns, too. Ultimately, it’s a worthy sequel that ups the stakes and shows us a new adventure in a reality where Green Lanterns and Starfleet officers fight side by side.
