The creators of “The Big Bang Theory” clearly had a deep affection for Batman, as evidenced by the numerous episodes that paid homage to the Dark Knight. Among the pop culture icons frequently referenced in the show, Batman holds a prominent place. However, there’s an intriguing connection between “The Big Bang Theory” and the Batman universe that might surprise some fans: both Melissa Rauch and Kaley Cuoco have lent their voices to the character of Harley Quinn, albeit a few years apart.

Melissa Rauch, known for her role as Bernadette on “The Big Bang Theory,” took on the voice of the iconic Batman villain in the 2017 animated film “Batman and Harley Quinn.” In this film, Harley teams up with Batman, voiced by Kevin Conroy, and Nightwing, played by Loren Lester. The film stirred controversy, particularly for a scene where Harley takes advantage of a restrained Nightwing, leading to mixed reviews. It currently holds a 50% approval rating from critics and a 51% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting its divisive reception.

In contrast, Kaley Cuoco’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in the 2019 animated series “Harley Quinn” has been met with widespread acclaim. The adult-themed comedy series follows Harley as she parts ways with the Joker, voiced by Alan Tudyk, and embarks on her own adventures. Throughout the series, she encounters a host of characters from the DC Universe, develops a romance with Poison Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell, and finds herself in various escapades. “Harley Quinn” boasts an impressive 96% rating on the Tomatometer and a 62% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The question of whether Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the evolving DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran remains unanswered. Robbie last portrayed the character in 2021’s “The Suicide Squad.” With the ongoing transformations within the DC Universe and Robbie’s demanding schedule as an actor and producer, speculation about her departure is rife. Gunn has chosen to keep details under wraps, stating to Entertainment Weekly, “That will be revealed down the line.”

Should Robbie step away from the role, some fans advocate for Kaley Cuoco to take up Harley’s mantle in live-action. Given the DCU’s aim for consistency across various media, Cuoco, who continues to voice Harley in the animated series, seems like a fitting choice to make the leap to live-action.

Could Kaley Cuoco become the DC Universe’s live-action Harley Quinn?

Although Cuoco has not publicly commented on the possibility of portraying Harley Quinn in the DC Universe, she has expressed a keen interest in a live-action role. When Yahoo! proposed a potential multiverse team-up featuring her, Margot Robbie, and Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn from “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Cuoco enthusiastically responded, “Hell yeah! What insanity would that be to say no to that?”

If Robbie doesn’t return, some fans think that Kaley Cuoco should be the one to pick up the baseball bat. After all, the DCU is trying to keep consistency across the shared universe and have one actor play a role in all the mediums, so if Cuoco is still voicing the character in “Harley Quinn,” why not let her take the party to the live-action sphere, too?

While she hasn’t spoken out about the idea of playing Harley Quinn in the DC Universe, she’s made it clear that she would love to play Harley in the flesh: Cuoco expressed enthusiasm when Yahoo! pitched a hypothetical live-action, multiversal team-up featuring her, Robbie, and Lady Gaga’s version of the character from “Joker: Folie A Deux.” She said: “Hell yeah! What insanity would that be to say no to that?”
