Are you prepared to work for the users? A new “Tron” sequel is on its way, promising to give the franchise another fresh start, following “Tron: Legacy,” which captivated audiences back in 2010. If you’re looking to revisit the franchise’s earlier films before grabbing your ticket for “Tron: Ares,” don’t miss our comprehensive guide video above—it’s your go-to resource for all things related to the “Tron” movie series.

Disney holds high hopes for “Ares,” especially considering the two latest “Tron” projects—”Legacy” and the animated show “Tron: Uprising”—didn’t quite meet expectations. “Legacy” grossed $409.9 million during its theatrical run, making it rather forgettable despite topping the box office charts, and drew a moderate 51% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Uprising” achieved accolades, securing an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation – Art Direction and two Annie Awards, yet it only enjoyed a single season on Disney XD. “Ares” has the potential to stand out by offering something new, but will its AI-focused plot captivate the audience?

Tron: Ares will be a fresh tale from the Tron universe

“Tron: Ares” (almost named “TR3N”) delves into the scenario of an AI program breaking into the real world. This is the central character, Ares (played by Jared Leto), crafted by the film’s main antagonist, Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters). Can Ares handle the challenges of the real world? As he is drawn out of the digital realm for a perilous mission, that question will be answered. The once top-secret world the government struggled to hide in the first two movies may now turn into common knowledge, with humans engaging with a “living” digital entity.

Besides Leto and Peters, the film also stars Gillian Anderson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, and Sarah Desjardins. Fans curious about ties to the original “Tron” universe will be pleased to know Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn once more.

Featuring a new soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, the movie hits theaters on October 7, 2025. Craving more insights into the franchise? Watch our accessible video above for all the details.
