If you’ve been speculating about when and how Georgie Cooper (played by Montana Jordan) and his wife Mandy (portrayed by Emily Osment) might call it quits, you’re not alone. The writing team of the show has yet to pinpoint exactly which of the many challenges facing the young couple will ultimately lead to their separation. “We’ve had some general discussions, but the beauty is that we’re aware it will happen at some point,” shared co-executive producer Steve Holland with TV Insider. “What we know from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is minimal, so we have no set timeline. It’s something that will definitely occur eventually, and it serves as an intriguing element over their relationship within the series.”
Like any young couple navigating the complexities of life and financial pressures, Georgie and Mandy have encountered significant conflicts over the past two seasons. Even minor disagreements could escalate into a major split. However, the writing team is opting to remain flexible, waiting for the right moment rather than forcing a breakup prematurely.
Holland is committed to ensuring that any separation between Georgie and Mandy unfolds naturally and sensibly. “We don’t want to force it. We don’t want to create a sudden, unnatural conflict,” he explained. The strategy involves thoughtful pacing and remaining open to opportunities as they arise, regardless of how long the show runs. “We allow ourselves to explore these developments as we progress,” he added.
Throughout Season 2, Georgie and Mandy have faced significant career hurdles. Mandy’s career is taking off at the local news station, while Georgie is gaining experience in managing Mcallister Tire and Auto. The dynamic is complicated by Georgie’s struggles with other men being drawn to Mandy’s on-screen presence, as well as his own ambitions pulling him away from home. It may be some time before the couple parts ways and Georgie assumes the title of Dr. Tire. Until then, fans should stay alert for the signs of their potential breaking point.
It’s important to Steve Holland that Georgie and Mandy’s break-up feels natural
Steve Holland is determined to break Georgie and Mandy up in an intelligent way that makes sense for the couple. The key: Look for a natural stopping point and work with it. “We don’t want to force it. We don’t want to force them to suddenly have a massive rift when it doesn’t feel natural, but it’s out there, and it will happen at some point,” he said. The key is slow, careful plotting, and when a possible out presents itself, they’ll let the chips fall where they may, no matter how many seasons the show runs. “We sort of leave ourselves open to kind of feel those things out as we’re going.”
Thus far, Season 2 has presented Georgie and Mandy with a lot of career challenges. Mandy’s star is rising at the local news station, and Georgie is learning the ropes of the tire business as he manages Mcallister Tire and Auto. He’s having a hard time coping with the fact that other men find her irresistible thanks to her weekend forecasts, while Georgie’s ambitions for the tire shop take him away from hearth and home. It’ll likely be awhile before the couple splits and Georgie becomes Dr. Tire, so until then, fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for that exit ramp.
