As anticipation builds for “Avengers: Doomsday,” one character’s absence has been notably felt. She-Hulk, portrayed by Tatiana Maslany, has kept a low profile since her starring role in the 2022 Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.” This has sparked speculation on whether Marvel plans to reimagine the character. For more insights into the possibility of a new She-Hulk debuting in the 2027 film “Avengers: Secret Wars,” watch the video above.
Buzz about She-Hulk being recast gained traction following a now-deleted post by a well-known Marvel insider. The unverified claim suggested that She-Hulk could play a significant role in “Secret Wars,” but Maslany may not be returning to the role. Concept art leaks from veteran Marvel designer Mushk Rizvi showed Jennifer Walters, whose likeness closely resembled Maslany, hinting that Marvel might still want her back for the part.
If Maslany decides against returning, it might be due to her packed schedule. She’s set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ show “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” and has a recurring role in “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” as Anisha Mir. Additionally, Maslany will feature in the films “The Comedy Hour” and “The Young People.” Yet, her busy calendar isn’t the only factor that could influence her decision.
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” faced criticism from some Marvel fans, leading to a wave of negative reviews. Detractors took issue with the show’s comedic elements, including its use of fourth wall breaks typical of the comics, as well as its special effects. This backlash led to harsh comments on Maslany’s social media, prompting her to address the situation directly.

Maslany has also publicly criticized Disney’s corporate behavior. Following Jimmy Kimmel’s temporary suspension from his show due to remarks about the passing of Charlie Kirk, Maslany encouraged her followers on Instagram to cancel their Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN subscriptions, using an image of herself in a motion capture suit from “She-Hulk” as a statement. Although she values her portrayal of Jennifer Walters, it appears Maslany may have left the character behind. Curious about the potential recasting of She-Hulk in the upcoming Marvel films? “There are so many more interesting things that I can look to than vitriolic fan response,” she said during an appearance on Collider Ladies Night. “Where people don’t like it or just want to be mean and use you as a dumping ground for their worst thoughts.” Maslany noted that fan response she received at conventions counterbalanced this cruelty, with some viewers telling her that it felt just like the actual Marvel Comics featuring She-Hulk that they’d read as children.
Maslany has also spoken out against Disney’s business practices publicly; when Jimmy Kimmel was temporarily suspended from his late night talk show in the wake of comments he’d made regarding the death of Charlie Kirk, Maslany posted an Instagram story urging viewers to cancel their Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN subscriptions in protest — and used a picture of herself in a mocap suit filming “She-Hulk” to do it. While Maslany might be proud of the work she did as Jennifer, it looks like she may have moved on from Ms. Walter’s chic business suits for good.
