After his successful stint as a vampire investigator on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel,” David Boreanaz embarked on a new journey in 2005 as an investigator of a different kind on “Bones.” He starred as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth alongside Emily Deschanel, who portrayed Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan. Their partnership became one of television’s most beloved police duos and romantic couples, captivating audiences over 12 seasons.
Similar to other series like “Law & Order” and “NCIS,” “Bones” frequently featured guest stars and recurring characters. Acclaimed actors such as Aldis Hodge, Michelle Hurd, and Bokeem Woodbine made appearances in single episodes, while Freddie Prinze, Jr., Cyndi Lauper, and Katheryn Winnick returned for multiple episodes over various seasons.
Despite its lengthy duration, very few actors outside the main cast appeared in all the series’ 12 seasons. Among them was only Patricia Belcher, a prolific character actor known for her role as federal prosecutor Caroline Julian. As a steadfast and confident attorney from the US Attorney’s office, she appeared in 55 episodes, debuting late in Season 1 and remaining a beloved recurring character. Although her appearances per season were limited, she became a fan favorite, a reliable figure whose presence was always felt.
Patricia Belcher is a frequent TV guest star
Patricia Belcher’s career, notable as a character actor, extends beyond her prominent role as Caroline Julian. Beginning with a small part in the 1990 film “Flatliners,” she has built an impressive resume over her career.
While Belcher has been cast in well-known films like “500 Days of Summer” and “Jeepers Creepers,” her prominence is most notable on television. Often seen in single-episode appearances, she has graced popular shows spanning decades. In the 1990s, her work included guest roles in “NYPD Blue,” “Who’s the Boss?,” “Seinfeld,” “ER,” “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Married… with Children,” and “Everybody Loves Raymond.” The 2000s featured her in “Ally McBeal,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Weeds,” among others, showcasing her extensive TV repertoire with over 100 roles.
While playing Caroline Julian on “Bones” marked her closest approach to a primary series role, Belcher continues to maintain a regular presence on television. Post-“Bones,” she appeared as the pesky neighbor Estelle Dabney on the Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie” and played a semi-regular character on TV Land’s “Teachers.” Additionally, she held recurring roles in the Disney Channel’s “The Villains of Valley View” and participated in the 2023 reboot of “Matlock.”
