Audiences quickly embraced the dramatic twists of “The Hunting Wives” and its lead character, Sophie O’Neil (played by Brittany Snow), prompting Netflix to grant the series a second season—an achievement not commonly seen among Netflix shows. Initially intended to air on Starz, the series was picked up by Netflix, which had to navigate international broadcast rights to officially make it a Netflix original. With these logistics handled, filming for new episodes is set to begin.

The mystery series—featuring a talented cast including Dermot Mulroney from “Deadly Illusions,” Chrissy Metz, Malin Akerman from “The Sleepover,” and Katie Lowes—captured audiences by blending sultry scenes with a captivating murder mystery set amid the political and social intrigues of Texas.

Fans of “Desperate Housewives” will likely find themselves drawn to this series of wealthy yet bored Southern women, but “The Hunting Wives” stands in a category of its own. The first season resolved its primary mystery, but not without spinning a new web of intrigue, as a new perpetrator awaits justice and another murder lurks, concealed by one of the show’s remaining characters.

The body count keeps rising on The Hunting Wives

“The Hunting Wives” delves into Sophie’s move from the East Coast to Texas in a fervent bid to escape her checkered past. Upon her arrival, she already bears the mark of a DUI-related hit-and-run. Her situation gets increasingly complicated as her husband Graham (played by Evan Jonigkeit) begins working for Jed (played by Dermot Mulroney), an oil magnate with aspirations for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Through Jed, Sophie meets Margo (played by Malin Akerman), the restless trophy wife, and Sophie’s world is turned upside down. Margo draws Sophie into her circle of affluent, hard-drinking, gun-toting friends. Before long, Sophie and Margo are entwined in a passionate liaison, but trouble ensues when a teenager named Abby (Madison Wolfe) is discovered dead in the forest where their gun club gathers.

The inaugural season concluded with Sophie uncovering that Margo, not Jill (Katie Lowes), was responsible for Abby’s murder, which leads to the disintegration of Margo and Sophie’s marriages. Additionally, Sophie inadvertently commits another DUI hit-and-run by killing Margo’s brother, Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan). Meanwhile, a mysterious one-eyed figure continues to linger ominously in the background. With its candidly filmed intimate scenes and compelling storyline, the series has captivated viewers, who are eagerly anticipating how Sophie handles the latest turmoil she’s entangled in.
