Sylvester Stallone has long been a staple of Hollywood action films, with numerous legendary roles throughout his career. In contrast, Jason Statham continues to be one of the few action stars whose name alone can pack theaters. Their recent collaboration, “A Working Man,” released in 2025, became a massive hit at the box office and is now dominating Amazon Prime Video, quickly rising to the top of the platform’s movie ranks. Stallone penned the script while Statham takes on the role of a hardworking, blue-collar hero, previously serving as a Royal Marine Commando.

“A Working Man” seems tailor-made for Statham, who excels at portraying a beleaguered, everyday hero who delivers justice to the deserving. He plays Levon Cade, a man with a troubled past who now leads a quiet life as a construction worker. However, when criminals kidnap his employer’s daughter, Cade reawakens his darker instincts to exact vengeance on the vile captors.

Although the plot is quite familiar—an ex-military man drawn back into a violent life by a personal tragedy—Statham shines as usual. He recently starred in a similar role in “The Beekeeper,” one of his standout performances. “A Working Man” competes with his best projects, featuring a powerful script by Stallone and a strong performance by Statham. “A Working Man” is not the first rodeo for Statham and Stallone as collaborators. Fans of action films might remember their appearances together in the “Expendables” series, with a possibility of Stallone playing an antagonist. They also teamed up before in “Homefront,” a 2013 action movie with Stallone writing and Statham in the lead role.

Unlike “A Working Man,” the script for “Homefront” isn’t original, but rather adapted from a novel by Charles Logan, better known for his science fiction works. The movie follows former DEA agent Phil Broker, who aims for a peaceful life with his daughter, Maddy. However, conflict arises when Maddy’s classmate’s mother threatens Broker, leading to a showdown with the unhinged Gator Bodine, played by James Franco.

As Gator discovers Broker’s involvement in prior DEA arrests affecting his allies, Broker becomes the target of Gator’s violent biker gang. “A Working Man” has captured audiences’ hearts, making “Homefront” a likely precursor that showcased Stallone and Statham refining their approach to stories of vengeful, working-class heroes.
